Every day I wake up hoping this production is part of some ill advised horribly bad dream. But here we are...they are still pushing this s*** down our throats day after day.

Such a tragedy in the making. And must we be forced to watch?

I care which way this film goes. I just don't think we have enough information to know what that is yet. The only thing we know for certain is that the casting has skewed younger than what is traditional for the Fantastic Four. That, in of itself, does not bother me. They did that in UFF and that mostly still felt like regular classic Fantastic Four to me, so I'm not super worried.

You're speaking as if we've already gotten two great Fantastic Four films and FOX is just now f***ing up the franchise with mediocrity and questionably weak casting choices.

No.

Have you read the comic for 50 years like I have? The FF isn't something that caught my fancy last Tuesday.......I have a long time invested in it.

Reed never came off as an asshat to me, the goat legs we weird but the character was still really well written and they quietly ignored the goat legs later on anyway, and I must have stopped reading before the Ben/Sue thing because I don't remember that.

I'm sorry, but I do not believe that you know much about the 616 FF. Which is fine, that is not necessarily a bad thing.

For those that enjoy the UFF, that is great, and I can see why those that do enjoy the UFF are not too worried about this movie and the casting.

For those that have been fans of 616, many on here for over 40 years, well they definitely have a reason to be pissed. They know these characters inside and out, and have watched all differences brought by each writer and artist, yet all of those writers and artists had threads that ran true through each issue. These long time fans, KNOW those threads....and those threads look to have been CUT.

And "cut" for no plausible reason aside from "Because we can".

No one expects a 100% faithful adaptation of the source material. But can we at least recognize the characters? Damn. LOL

UFF was many thing. Well-written, it was not. USM was a fairly well-written book for a while. UXM had some decent stories (mostly early on...about issue 40 it tanked). Ultimates early on (though it never came out on time) was fun (though it lacked any of the 616 world's heart). Though, Ultimates 3 killed any quality it had. UFF was just garbage from the word go. Doom being the worst offender. He was whiny and pathetic.

For those saying this is based on UFF, here's what you probably don't realize: you're making two arguments, not one.

The first is obvious...the claim they're basing it on UFF, with no solid evidence to back that up. Reed/Sue/Ben being younger is the only information we have that would suggest that. And even then, it still doesn't add up because Johnny's age fits his 616 counterpart and is the same age as them.

The second argument is that UFF has any merit to be adapted in the first place. It was the most poorly received Ultimate book out of the original four main titles (USM, Ultimate X-Men, Ultimates, UFF). Its reception and sales lead to its cancellation, along with Ultimate X-Men. Several characterizations were also heavily criticized, especially Reed's.

You're not making FF fans any more optimistic by bringing up UFF. If anything, you're only adding more fuel to their worries.

UFF doesn't excuse Trank's "vision".

But the thing is, I do. I've been reading the comics my whole life. My favorite comic growing up was a history of the FF special detailing every character and every adventure from their first issue to about 1995. I must have read that thing 100 times, along with my hardcover collection of the first ten issues of the original run. I've loved and known the Fantastic Four since long before UFF came out, which I liked well enough but it certainly didn't inform my opinions about any of the characters.

This "no true scotsman" thing that's been going on around here lately is starting to bug me.

Except I'm one of those fans too, and I don't see any information we've received that suggests those threads have been cut. All we know is that the cast is skewing kind of young. That's it. It's a change, sure, but a change doesn't mean a betrayal.
