Default What Comics/Storylines maybe will influence Age of Ultron?

Obviously, the film is called AGE OF ULTRON, but that doesn't mean it is inspired by that storyline.

From everything I have seen so far, I see hints of:

- THE ULTIMATES
- AVENGERS DISASSEMBLED
- HOUSE OF M
- ULTRON UNLIMITED

The Ultimates because the filmmakers for all the Marvel films have looked to The Ultimates in some way, especially for the costume designs.

Avengers Disassembled because that is the comic that 'ended' in a way the classic Avengers roster and was pre-Civil War and from what Kevin Feige has said, it looks like the roster will change by the end of the film.

House of M because I see maybe an influence from Scarlet Witch creating visions for the team/changing reality and I see some of that in the film.

Ultron Unlimited because in my opinion this the best and most iconic Ultron story and involves Ultron invading/eliminating a European country which we know is also involved in Age of Ultron. Black Panther, Vibranium and Wakanda is also in this storyline.

Does anyone else agree with this or do you notice anymore storyline/visual influences?

Reading ULTRON UNLIMITED again, I can definitely see strong influences, especially with the European setting in the comic, which we know will be in the film.

Yea most of what you listed seems to shine through in one way or another, with the most overtone coming from Ultimates. I have my suspicions of them going the whole changing reality thing...especially in trying to avoid looking like DOFP's ending. Either way I like what you're getting at.

Wha? Where are you seeing all these Ultimates influences? Obviously Hawkeye's costume is Ultimates inspired but I'm really not seeing much of an influence anywhere else.

As for the OP, I think the storyline will be largely original with mostly names and concepts being borrowed from existing stories. I have my doubts that we'll be seeing the death of an entire country for example.

I have a theory, and since it regards a possible tie in to a comic plot, this thread might be the best place for it.

We know that Ultron is created when "Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program." Now people have suggested this implies the involvement of Howard, and/or Pym, and/or Zola. But I'd like to focus on Howard for a moment.

In the comics, Howard Stark created a secret robot during WW2 as a contingency plan, in case the Axis won. This robot was known as Arsenal (there were actually two different versions of it, because, comics) and it was hidden in a secret sub-basement of the Avengers Mansion. Of course, in the comics it is eventually wrongly activated, and manages to hold the Avengers at bay despite being over 50 years old technology...

Now, in Agent Carter, it has been revealed that Howard Stark does indeed have dangerous inventions ("bad boys") hidden away in at least one vault under one of his mansions. This suggests, to me, the possibility that there might be some version of Arsenal that exists at some point in the MCU, and that this is what is used as the basis for Ultron.

Don't get me wrong: I'm not saying Arsenal necessarily exists, or will exist, during the time frame of the Agent Carter mini-series (that might be too anachronistic, even for a Stark), nor am I saying it is necessarily an actual physical robot. But I could see Howard Stark, as depicted in Agent Carter, eventually creating something like this and then hiding it away. Maybe it's a response to the threat of "Leviathan". Maybe it's a counter to Zola's project Insight? Maybe it's a joint project he works on with Vanko. Or maybe Pym is involved somehow.

But I'd bet Ultron is initially called Project Arsenal.

Intrigued by this storyline. Is it easy to jump on to?

Well I think Avengers 57-58 is a given.

But I agree with yours, especially Ultron Unlimited, Whedon said it's his own story, but clearly it has a lot of basis in Unlimited.

This story will have nothing to do with Avengers Disassembled or House of M. House of M is a mutant themed story, and Marvel doesn't have movie rights to those. Not Disassembled, because Scarlet Witch is going from villain to hero and not the other way around.

The stories that influence the movie the most are:
Avengers #2- The Hulk quits
Avengers #16- Thor and Iron Man leave. The lineup revolves. Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, and Hawkeye abandon their villainy and become Avengers.
Avengers #54-55- Ultron's introduction
Avengers #57-58- The Vision's introduction.
Avengers #66-68- Ultron making himself invulnerable with adamantium (changed to vibranium in the movie.
Ultron Unlimited- Ultron wipes out a country
The movie will take no inspiration from the Age of Ultron miniseries it shares its title with. There will be no time travel.

I bought the Age of Ultron graphic novel a few months ago in anticipation of the movie. I kinda regret it because it really shares nothing in common with the movie other than the name. I didn't think the storyline was BAD but it wasn't that good either. I am glad the movie isn't doing that because Ultron was barely in the story.
