Default The Watcher

If The Watcher isn't owned by Fox for FF.. Which film should he debut in? I would think he'd be watching these critical events by now. Especially the battles in US/UK?

Can anybody own the Watcher?

Probably like a Scarlet Witch/Quicksilver thing...

I could see the argument that he belongs to the Fantastic Four, I could see the argument that he belongs to the Marvel universe as a whole. After all, he seems to appear in every what-if and lots of other things as well.

Anyway, in my view, the only logical movie for him to appear is Avengers 3. Basically, the stakes need to be high enough for him to break his oath to only watch. While apparently that meant Galactus eating a particular planet in the comics, what better situation than the entire destruction of the universe? I would actually have him narrate the opening of the movie explaining the Infinity Stones and his role in the universe. Then he would appear watching as Thanos got each stone. Then he would break his oath to warn the Avengers so they can stop him.

Well if we went by that then FOX would own the Black Panther too.

I think feige has confirmed marvel has the rights to black panther. It's tricky but sometimes the contracts have exceptions

Black Panther has had his own series for quite some time. Has Uatu ever had one?

The consistent attribute when it comes to which rights are where comes down to defining and important stories. Silver Surfer is not a member of the Fantastic Four, and has teamed up with everyone, is a part of the Defenders, and so on, but all of his defining and most important stories are with the Fantastic Four. Black Panther premiered in and has been a member of the Fantastic Four, however his defining and most important stories occur with the Avengers and solo, so his rights are separate.

That's why Scarlet and QS are split, because they have important defining stories both with the Avengers and with the X-Men.

Because at the end of they day, the purpose of buying rights is not to have a slice of a non-existent universe, the purpose is to be able to tell contained stories on film, and so rights are split up based on storytelling, not on technical associations.

In this case, all of Uatu's most defining and important stories are with the Fantastic Four, so it's pretty likely that he's with them.
