People won't even notice this film. That's rough competition for a reboot that already got controversy. FOX is gonna keep this thing away from Marvel until they make a deal.

Jurassic World is the week before, Pixar's Inside out is the same weekend, and Ted 2 the week after.

Casting Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm is just a symptom of the greater problems plaguing this movie. It's not the end-all and be-all of the issues. It's one of many signs of just how badly Fox doesn't understand the Fantastic Four and has no interest in putting out a faithful adaptation. A Reed Richards who doesn't look old enough to drive certainly doesn't help. Nevermind trying to take a "gritty" and "grounded" tone with the Fantastic Four. They're about as far away from gritty and grounded as you can get!

Here are the questions I am asking to any big Fox producer at CC next year:

1. Did Marvel/Disney make any attempt or overtures to reacquire rights before this thing went into production?

(Sorry, can't comment)

2) Does Fox feel this property can be a long term, profitable film franchise? Why when the standard budget for these CB films (including DOFP) is well north of 150, Fox is giving this less than 100 million dollars?

(Revolutionary new and cheap technology... Yada yada)

3. Can Fox crossover FF/X-Men?

(Maybe, perhaps. Wait and see)

4. Why was Trank the right fit for the project along with this young cast?

(Lip service)

5. Will fans be happy with the film ?

(We think so)

So even though we know the answers we will get to these questions, they have to be addressed. Same applies to Marvel and why they chose to abandon this property despite having the capital they have with Disney's backing and the success of the MCU. BOTH studios must be held accountable for this whatever the results may be.

How is Marvel accountable? They sold these rights basically for a jelly donut to stay in business in the 90s, and FOX doesn't want to give them back yet. How is their fault?

Unless you really expect Marvel to throw some arbitrarily huge check at Fox in the hopes that they'll accept. . . except if Marvel did do that, Fox would just reply by refusing, to drive the price higher. Its why, IMO, they turned down flat the offer to make a deal about the Daredevil rights: Fox is greedy.

yeah I think people tend to forget there was no cbm film boom back when Marvel let all this stuff go. If they hadn't licensed everything out they'd have gone bust and all the properties might have been irrevocably scattered to the four winds anyway.

Indeed they do! We also forget that they acquired most of their properties back over time after resorting to that! Heck, even New Line at one point owned Iron Man!

I don't see them offering anything to get FF back. They may just be patient and let the rights revert back. I think the most crucial part of the franchise they want is Galactus/Surfer. Those characters could be incorporated into the GOTG franchise for the cosmic stuff.

What if GOTG is a smashing success? They also have designs on the Inhumans and Defenders as other group films. Is FF real critical to Marvel right now?

The "game" seems to become "dirtier", I don't like that at all. I was insulted by a (probably Fox) guy on imdb, who called me a troll for just saying that whereas the casting of Daniel Craig and Health Ledger as Bond and the Joker were controversial, the movie they were in were both headed in the right direction (Casino Royale returning to the Ian Fleming spirit and TDK following the excellent Batman begins) and the direction pleased both the fan and the critics from the beginning... unlike the future "Fantastic Four" who seems to be nothing like the comic, and very cheap.
Then the guy came out of nowhere to insult me... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1502712/.../228681957?p=4
I'm really furious but, well, I won't insult him. By agressing me instead of answering, he just proved me right...

Because if Fox is going to invest a paltry 100 million or less in this along with being dead silent with the production developments, it shows how much they think the property is worth, hence any outlandish number they may have asked for would be ridiculous even for their expectations.

Wish some interviewer could get a hold of Kevin Feige and ask him specifically about F4 and what does it to mean to them about not having the rights to Doom, the F4, Surfer/Galactus, Negative Zone, Latveria, etc.?

I think he has already said (in general terms regarding the properties other studios currently hold, rather than any specific one) that Marvel have more than enough in their own stable to keep them busy for a good while yet.

Privately, I would think they'd love to get the FF and all back, but little point publicly talking up Fox's hand in that regard.

About a month ago, a Jem and the Holograms movie was announced. Not only is it already cast, we've already had a glimpse of the characters in (gasp!) costumes! Fantastic Four barely made it out of Development Hell after years in development, we haven't even received much of an official confirmation on anything about the movie, and this is easily the least "buzzed about" major comic film releasing in the near future.

What the ****?
