It has nothing to do with Nolan though. I bash everything else because it's just my taste. I will always dig the Burton films but there's plenty to bash. Ive eased on that now. Maybe ill see BvS and love it all. Dont make it sound like im a fan who thinks Batman is crap unless Nolan directs cuz he can do no wrong. There's movies from his filmography that i dont care about.

Plenty of room for improvement.

Give shauner a break! That trailer looked like pure garbage, sorry but it did.

I'm more than willing to give the show a fair shake, but the trailer did not do it any favors at all.

First of all, my comment had NOTHING to do with the details of the plot. So every single thing you just said has no relevance at all. My beef with it has to do with acting, cinematography and the idea behind A) showing the origin again (not how it happens) B) the kid villains.

Secondly, if you want to start something. Bruce became Batman to impress Rachel Dawes? Lmao...no wonder you're saying there's plenty of room for improvement...you didnt even pay attention to Batman Begins in the first place!

I didn't have a problem with the trailer, I'm just not sold on the show yet.

I actually liked the trailer for Gotham. Then again I like Ben Mckenzie. I'm not sure though if it'll hold my interest.

Not usually a fan of his but i thought he was the best thing about the trailer. He has such a different look to him that it doesn't make me think of Gordon but he was alright. Bullock seemed OK too. The rest was a little corny for me.

Yeah, I feel like Ben McKenszie could potentially be a great Gordon. Just not sure I have faith in the show around him at the moment.

If it's not Nolan then it's corny.

More like, if if feels kind of halfway between a watered down Nolanverse and a watered down comic booky universe with poor production value, it's corny.

The trailer wasn't splendid or anything, but I'm willing to give the show the benefit of the doubt. It's quite unusual for us to get a trailer for a show that early, especially since they only started filming in late February or March. It wouldn't be a surprise at all if they're still working on the visuals. Arrow's premiere trailer looked about the same or worse, and the show looks much better in comparison.

Other than that and a few age changes I'm on the fence about, I think the show looks good. I always said Gordon is a character who can carry his own show. Heck, I thought Oldman's Gordon could have easily had his own movie. Plus with Bruce, there is an actual journey to be had that can go on for multiple seasons, unlike Clark Kent (no offense, Superman fans). Though I fear they might be a bit gimmicky when it comes to comic book references. I read an article stating that at least 5 pre-villains will cameo in just the pilot. At least on paper, that sounds really gimmicky.

However, my biggest fear is if the show can sustain itself for multiple seasons. We're seeing a superhero boom on television - Arrow, Flash, Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders, Young Justice, etc. With all these shows coming out, we might look back on Gotham in a few years and see it as a waste of potential for it not being a straight-up Batman show. Especially if Daredevil takes off and Arrow does a huge Ra's al Ghul story. That's really my biggest fear so far. In some ways, this seems like the perfect show to have come out in the early 2000's instead of Smallville. They even borrowed a few things from the cancelled Bruce Wayne show. But it may be a case of "too little too late" for 2014. If not for the hardcore fans, then for the general public.

As a side note, I would love to see Batman get the Sherlock treatment. 3 episodes a season, 90 minutes each, shot very cinematic.

Expecting it to be batman year one like in tone. Gordon stole the show in that story so it's only fitting he would get his own show. It's not replacing batman it's to stand along side it. Would rather he take on Gotham mobsters more and that the pre-villains took a backseat. However It does make sense to include cobblepot and other villains and other villains who operated as criminals in Gotham before making a costumed persona name for themselves after batman shows up.

I'm just glad we get to see a live action Bullock! I'm not expecting a show about Batman; but without Batman to sustain itself too long, but I'm really intrigued to see where this could potentially go.

I really liked the trailer. It would be cool if they connected it to the DCCU but I don't think they will.

They wont connect it, they already said they won't. Im happy about that because the production values just seem so amateur in comparison to what they can do on film. If it was on HBO or AMC with a fantastic crew, then i would be all for it. I rather everything be consistent.

Plus they might be doing Jokers origin on the show, which is a big no-no for me. That's one major thing im cringing about with this show, the kid origins, especially for Joker. I dont want to see who he was prior to the arrival of Batman. Joker is a reaction to Batman.

Nolan's Joker was causing mayhem before Batman.

But seeing beloved villains as kids always works out so well!

No, he wasn't. His presence was not known until the end of Batman Begins when Gordon was talking about escalation because of Batman, and then hands him the Joker card, telling him about a new criminal who has a taste for the theatrical like Batman does.

Joker is a reaction to Batman. His makeup, his gimmick. It happens after Batman's appearance. He can cause mayhem before Batman, which is what he'll do here im sure. Or at least showing his origins. But i dont like seeing that. Unless it's done in a ambiguous way.

Also, there's no proof that he was causing mayhem in Nolans world pre-Batman. It could have happened just after Batman made his first appearance.

I guess if you're willing to take Joker at his word (always a tough proposition), he was "ripping off mob dealers" before Batman came around in the Nolanverse.

What it comes down to for me with "Gotham" is just that Fox is so hit and miss and the concept is one that could very easily fall flat on its face if the execution isn't great. I hope it's good though, I would never root against a Batman product to succeed.
