It was more Fox's fault than his.
But he did have his hands on the script to a degree. He's the one who decided to change the climax of the finale to Alcatraz. Originally, the finale was to take place in Washington, DC at the White House.

…another thing Singer and company decided to rectify.

I don't know why but I love that line. Dinklage has the best delivery.

And if i remember correctly it was his decision to actually have Rogue take the cure in the end. I think the writers and producers liked the other version of the scene where she didn't take it. So there are still a lot of things i blame him for. Just on an old fashioned storytelling level i find the directing of X3 (same with origins, so bland) to be weak. So even if i take all the actual events of the film that i hate and leave them in and acknowledge them as being there before Ratner came in, i still feel like the overall presentation of the film was weak. I believe Vaughn when he says his version would have been better.

Yes!

I've got to say again that i love Magneto's entire plane outburst.

"Angel. Azazel. Emma. Banshee. Mutant brothers and sisters. All dead! Countless others, experimented on. Butchered! Where were you Charles? We were supposed to protect them. Where were you when your own people needed you? Hiding! You and Hank! Pretending to be something you're not. You abandoned us all!"

At that moment i thought "who the hell wrote this? Top marks" then i read who. Kinberg's redemption.

After TDK, this is becoming the second-most quotable movie in the genre for me.

"Would it help if I told you I'm from the future?"

Loved Hugh's delivery of that line, Logan knew he sounded stupid saying it but did anyway.

Oh and

"Think peaceful thoughts" to himself.

I wonder why he didn't say Riptide. Is it because his name wasn't mentioned in First Class?

I like how when Quicksilver and Magneto were in the elevator together they hinted at Magneto being his father with the line "They told me you can control metal, my mom once knew a guy who could do that."

Oh man, that line gets me every time. It's so beautifully random and "I'm totally incognito" from Mystique

Funny, one of the few moments I didn't like very much. It sounded too "scripted" for an outburst, and the delivery was too over the top for my liking. Too much going on. Also, I expected Charles to react more aggressively in return, as soon as Magneto started shouting and blaming him. Again, a "Magneto has to have the last word" moment, when it should have been the perfect moment for Charles to have the last word.

For example - Charles says "do you want a fight, Erik?", Erik angrily says something like "you let go of your powers when you could have helped mutants" Charles says "yeah, like you helped me, Hank, Alex and Sean when you left us on that beach!" Eriks gets even angrier (without screaming, you could see it on his face) and then the plane starts to shake and fall down, because he's losing control of his emotions and he kind of knows that Charles is right, in a way. I think it would have been more interesting and balanced.

I think that the plane outburst is a good example of the problem I have with Erik in the film - he just seemed to express himself through speeches which sounded too scripted, as if he was just reciting stuff without really feeling them - just a repeat of the speech in First Class, which removed some of Erik's complexities in DOFP.

So yeah, not really great Charles/Erik moments in DOFP. The satellite scene in First Class remains the best, in terms of emotion and delivery. At least until - I hope - Apocalypse.

Personally I love his speeches. That one on the beach in FC was ****ing great and it's one of the reasons why I prefer Fassbender's portrayal over McKellen's any day of the week. Fassbender's was far more like the comics, with his anger and yes, those speeches. I still like McKellan's take on the character, but too many of his scenes he has a moustache twirl look on his face and in his delivery.

Yeah the plane scene was one of the emotional to me, Fassbender knocked it out the park, but I guess not for everyone.

I thought that the speech in First Class was okay, but now it looks too much like a gimmick, and turned Erik more into a 1D character - which he wasn't in First Class. At this point it seems like "character X says something, Magneto reacts with a speech". It lacks complexity, because it's like he's always carrying pieces of paper with speeches written for every situation.

But wasnt Charles still on the serum at the point in the story, he was still walking, he was still a broken man not strong enough to fight back against Erik at that stage. (I may be remembering wrong as I'm not sure what order some things came in)

Plus, I think it was a case of Xavier recognizing that a lot of what Erik was saying was true. That doesn't mean that Erik didn't royally screw up as well, but his points still stand.

Agree with many of these, especially the McAvoy lines. The Cerebro scene, his junkie scenes - all magic. Also liked...

Wolverine: Your best is enough.

Future Xavier: It is our greatest gift, to bear their pain without breaking.

Wolverine: Yes, I think it is. (Callback to Xavier at the end of X3)
