Batman is just as much a hero as he is a psychologically damaged vigilante.

Its what separates him from characters like Rorschach and Punisher.

You must be easily saddened.

Exactly. Here's a direct quote from the book "Danny Elfman's Batman: A Film Score Guide", which gives an in depth analysis of the score and how it reflects the film.

"Again, it is the scale, volume, and insistence, of the orchestration, particularly the use of the voices, that makes this the most terrifying moment in the cue, the images supporting the idea that Vicki is being driven into hell by a monstrous, demonic Batman, the cue and the car finally coming to a halt with a conclusive statement of his theme."

My one question about Zimmer is is he going to reuse any of TDK trilogy scores. I'd rather him not and think of something new for Batman, maybe something a bit "creature of the night"-ish than his Nolan trilogy score.

He wouldn't do that. He already said that he didn't feel comfortable about the idea of "plopping" the Nolan theme into an entirely different iteration of the series and would only consider doing it if he felt like he had a fresh approach. I still don't think he's officially signed on, though it seems like a good bet that he'll do it.

It's the Batman of a different director and a different actor, I can't imagine he would use a whole lot/any of his Dark Knight Trilogy stuff.

25 years later (25 years later!), the film that proved the comic book superhero movie could be serious and cynical still looks pretty damn good. It's recognizably a product of the late 1980s - not just because of the Prince songs - but it's of its time in a good way. For as much talk as there's always been about how Nicholson's Joker overshadows Keaton's Batman, I don't see it that way at all; I really appreciate the empathy this film has for Bruce, and I love the mystique of the Keaton-Burton Batman. It bums me out that Burton's films have the reputation as goofy/campy, because they are serious - just not in the way Nolan's films are. In his successful films, Burton has an impressive knack for finding precisely the right mixture or balance of darkness and light, the sad and the funny, and Batman (1989) is one of those films. To me, Batman Returns is better in every way, but damn, it's always a pleasure to revisit this one. The ride to the Batcave and that final shot are two of my favorite movie moments ever.

I know, but those horns sound more suitable for some like Robin Hood, a traditional hero. Burton doesn't believe in those kind of heroes and made his Batman go against that archetype.

I don't think Elfman's fanfare matches the presentation of their Batman.

That's a first.

Anyways like the above image of Keaton smiling. You know whenever he gives someone that psychotic grin they're screwed.

What a coincidence, I think Batman Returns is inferior in every way.

Still brilliant film. Never get bored watching and you know what the charcaters going to say or do. Thank you Burton & Co.

Love how you had to ring your local cinema to know the showtimes. Now these days you can just onto website.

I rewatched it last night for the first time in a long time. I actually liked quite a bit more than I remember. Still not a fan of Joker being the killer of his parents, even ignoring the comics I feel it's contrived and I have some other problems here and there, but I liked at a lot more this time.
