Disney has closed a deal with director Rian Johnson to develop a new “Star Wars” trilogy, and it is planning a live-action “Star Wars” TV series to air on its entertainment streaming service that is expected to launch by the end of 2019.

Disney chairman-CEO Bob Iger announced the “Star Wars” news during the company’s quarterly earnings call. In addition to the “Star Wars” TV series, Disney is working on TV series adaptations of Pixar’s “Monsters Inc.,” the Disney Channel’s “High School Musical” franchise and an original entry from Marvel.

So Disney will be putting a Star Wars live-action TV series on its streaming service, which I'm sure is not a big surprise. There was talk and development over live-action Star Wars shows for years but nothing ever got off the ground.

Star Wars: Underworld was apparently announced over 10 years ago, but it never got off the ground. That show was apparently going to be set in-between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. Based on the wikia entry, I think Rebels seems in many ways like an animated version of what Underworld could've been.

Here's something interesting. Cory Balrog talked about reading scripts for a Star Wars TV series that would've followed Palpatine in his younger years and he would've been a sympathetic figure. So apparently there was an idea for a show with Palpatine that got this far along that scripts were written.

So all discussion for the upcoming live-action Star Wars series here.

The Doctor Aphra show, featuring Jessica Henwick as the good Doctor please.
