Justice League
7/10
Too long, but emotionally satisfying and fleshed out.
Man of Steel
6/10
Gripping drama devolves into an extended destructionfest.
Batman v Superman
4/10
Easily the worst in the trilogy. A semi-decent Batman flick is framed against a horrible Superman film, with a...
Snyder said the "black and grey" version is the definitive version. I tried to watch it, and it feels like a setting on VLC rather than an actual remaster. But yeah, it'd probably be a lot of fun to watch on a 60s tube tv :p
The Sons of Katie Elder is odd. Too serious to be lighthearted escapism, too light to feel like a proper drama. It feels like it would be one of the "dime a dozen" Westerns if not for the stars of John Wayne and Dean Martin. It feels very throw-away, to me.
"as was Billy Crudup, and the giant glowing blue penis was just ridiculous after a while."
I liked Crudup's "awkward nerd" interpretation of Dr. Manhatten, but to give him an 8 inch sausage makes him seem vain and gross. I wouldn't mind if he wore the speedo the whole movie :o
^ I feel like the handheld Leto footage is "if I move the camera will people forget it's Leto?" and the answer is a resounding no. It's ironic that Batman's "I'm gonna kill you" feels more line with what the green Goblin would say than Batman :)
^ TDK is a good crime drama in a world where 90 percent of superhero movies are franchise-based, campy, thinly scripted, and emotionally simplistic. While not perfect (just saying this goes into controversial territory) it is decently paced and showcases amazing performances, a memorable score...
I think the hype comes in part because of DC's A-list superheroes and the behind the scenes tragedy. I wouldn't wish the latter on my worst enemy, but I think people are rooting for Justice League out of a sense of morality, and not its stand-alone merits. Personally, I feel like it's above...
- Uxas getting creamed by the Amazonians.
- Wonder Woman killing the bad guys in front of the civilians.
- Aquaman brooding for like, two minutes.
- The Flash Snyder slow-mo up to 11. Why can't he just save Iris without being creepy?
- Cyborg's dad getting murdered-sure it amplifies the stakes...
Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman fighting "Doomsday" in an abandoned oil rig. Sure, it minimizes casualties, but the lake of overall stakes makes it feel like a reactionary choice rather than an inspired one.
I really liked that they let Batfleck's voice kind of bleed in a little more. He's seemed to have lost a Midwestern accent, so I consider him a better Wayne in BvS.
