Mystery/Thriller ´The Day Of The Jackal' (Sky/Peacock)

Loved episode 6, and glad to see the show got a little queer.
Sadly, I fear that things will not end well for the Jackal’s new friend, but I’m glad the show didn’t shy away from the queer elements of the story. Hopefully they’ll explore the Jackal’s bisexuality further in future seasons.

Episode 8
All caught up, glad we got some backstory into the Jackals days in the special forces. It would not suprise me if his partner is working for the opposition, as I am sure he's going to make an appearance before the end of the season

Are the episodes getting released in the UK (or elsewhere) first?

They only have the first three episodes out in Canada, but I’m really looking forward to starting at least!

Never read the book or watched the previous adaptations.

I never have either, but this feels so fresh and dynamic, it doesn't seem to matter.

Yeah, I’ve never seen the original film or read the book, but I want to now. I did see the one from the 1990s… ya’ll can skip that one, lol. I love Bruce Willis and Richard Gere, but that movie is weak.

All great shows but this one is better than all except maybe Shogun....

And let’s be real. I love Shogun and think it’s a masterpiece but this show is SO much more fun to watch.

It's less dense and complicated. The episodes go by so fast!

Yeah, totally. And still complex and subtle. The Jackal himself is a fascinating character because he keeps his motivations and feelings close to the vest, even to the viewer. So we’re never quite sure when he’s about to do something evil, good or neutral. Amazing performance and writing.

Yeah Eddie is doing an outstanding job with performance, dare I say it's his best role yet, at least top 2, him being a stone cold killer is just something I never thought he could pull off.

It's the best I've seen him in, though Fantastic Beasts is close.

About final
Okay I was genuinly shocked (not in a bad way) by that final, I have to believe there was a last min change to the ending

Ok, so I just binged this hardcore style during a couple of days, and it was truly great. Glad we seem to get a season two, which that ending also suggested.

I read the book in the 80s, and watched the original film with Edward Fox decades ago as well (and the remake which was.. forgettable). Now I would need a rewatch of the original since I don't remember much. And this show is of course quite loosely built on the book (noticed though in credits that Frederick Forsythe was consulting producer).

And even though I was totally surprised by stuff like that the Jackal in this version had a family and double life, they made those things work. Redmayne was excellent, the best role I've personally seen him do. Lynch was also really good as usual, and I really liked how complex her character was written - trying to deal with family matters, but also making some horrible deciscions just for information. That particular death of a certain person, while Bianca was constantly lying about it didn't make her character especially sympathetic.

It was quite hard to see Bianca get killed, wasn't expecting that. Since she was a mother trying to fix her familly problems, it was tough even though she wasn't all likable. Also would've loved to see Lynch carry on in the next season.

Over all a great tense show. One detail I loved was that we got a couple of awesome car chase scenes, it showed that Jackal was a skilled driver as well as a super methodic assassin.

Binged all of this yesterday and man is this a fantastic show. Hearing all the great things about this made me want to actually check out the OG film first since I've only seen the 90's movie with Bruce Willis and Richard Gere and while I don't mind that movie this and the original film are far superior IMO.

As of right now this is my favorite impetration of the material and its various reasons. For one as others have already said Eddie Redmayne is just incredible in this role and very believable as a cold-blooded killer.

I'm not super familiar with his work but I've seen him in other stuff and based on what I've seen him in before this is easily his best performance especially from a physicality standpoint.

I was honestly surprised by how much depth they gave his character and his whole relationship with the actress who played Tokio in Money Heist who was also really good in this was interesting as well.

It definitely reminded me quite a bit of Michael Fassbender's character in The Killer although I really liked how vicious, brutal and intense the action got at times, especially towards the end.

Hopefully, it doesn't take too long for Season 2 to come out.

Also, I don’t mean to antagonize anyone here but I have to push back on criticisms that Bianca is “unlikable.” Maybe if I saw that criticism levied at male protagonists on the regular then I wouldn’t have an issue, but I swear, 99% of the time that word is thrown around (and not just with TV shows and movies) it’s directed at a woman. Granted, Bianca did some awful things on this show but that’s kind of the point; while she’s acting for the right reasons, she occasionally has to do things that are morally questionable or just flat out wrong. And yet, I would venture to say that if a man was the one perusing the Jackal and doing a bunch of questionable stuff, people wouldn’t be calling him unlikable. He would just be “complex” or “complicated.”
