As a young girl, 11 year old CC sat front row in front of her television to watch the first game all those years ago. Seeing Lisa Leslie of the Sparks and Rebecca Lobo of the Liberty tip off is something that is seared in my mind. In fact, Lisa Leslie's Sparks jersey was the first jersey I ever owned that wasn't my own. (Thanks Santa!). I even wrote to her once when I was like 10? I hope she never got it lol
I was there for the first tip, the first dunk (i can quote the announcer and still hear it clear as day in my head even now), and i've been fortunate to meet some future WNBA stars/ Olympians while they were still in college.

Anyways, here is a thread for the WNBA. It's crazy of the 8 original teams, only 3 remain (at least in name-sake).

Since I played as an undersized guard before, I took a lot out of the games of Teresa Weatherspoon, Becky Hammon, and Dawn Staley.

Not surprised that they eventually became successful coaches.

it seems as though a lot of guards (NBA and WNBA) have made great transitions to coaches

There have been some crazy moves this offseason. CC here with a recap, thanks to wnba.com for the assist :rimshot:

PHOENIX MERCURY
IN: Alyssa Thomas, Satou Sabally, Sami Whitcomb, Kalani Brown, Sevgi Uzun
OUT: Brittney Griner (ATL), Natasha Cloud (CON), Sophie Cunningham (IND)

CC says: Phoenix just got a little bigger, faster and a lot stronger with Thomas and Satou. Both are solid and strong and deceptively fast and play both sides of the court very well.
They lost Bonner and Taurasi is up in the air, but they still have gold medalist Copper. Those three can keep the ball moving all night and tire teams down. I predict at least 5 triple doubles from Thomas next season. All three love to crash, so they have Whitcomb out there to dish and pass out for a three. If Sami is locked in, watch out yall.

INDIANA FEVER
IN: Kelsey Mitchell, DeWanna Bonner, Natasha Howard, Sophie Cunningham
OUT: Grace Berger (MIN), Katie Lou Samuelson

CC says: Katie Lou is out, which kinda bums me as i'm an old school Uconn fan, 20 years and counting, but picking up Howard and Bonner! HUGE! Bonner and Clark are both super intense players who had a little heated moment in a game last year, but they're gonna move past that and I think Bonner helps Clark elevate her game even more. I don't know much about Sophie but what I remember hearing from last year was positive. Howard is a former DPOY, which will help Aliyah Boston a lot. Kelsey Mitchell should really help their guard game and I predict the Fever will turn the ball over at least 20% less than they did last season, if not more.

ATLANTA DREAM
IN: Brittney Griner, Brionna Jones, Shatori Walker-Kimbrough
OUT: Cheyenne Parker-Tyus (LVA)

CC says: Atlanta just got some much needed size in the paint by getting Griner, and her veteran experience is also a plus, especially after losing Tina Charles. Last year they were one of the worst teams at allowing points in the paint. Signing Jones and Griner will help them there significantly. This is one of the teams I know the least about, but I do know that Rhyne Howard can ball. she has a huge skillset and she's very young and hungry. Another season with her, Alisha Gray and Canada, they are going to be a surprise for a lot of people.

LAS VEGAS ACES
IN: Jewell Loyd, Cheyenne Parker-Tyus, Tiffany Mitchell, Dana Evans
OUT: Kelsey Plum (LAS), Sydney Colson (IND), Tiffany Hayes (GSV), Alysha Clark (SEA)

CC says: first off, i gotta admit that i love their unis. and any team that has A'ja, has a chance to win it all. Losing Plum, Colson, Hayes and Clark is tough! I met Hayes in her playing days and she was super nice. But picking up Jewell Loyd and Mitchell? man, don't sleep on the Aces. Chelsea Gray is still there, dropping dimes for everyone, and with Loyd averaging almost 20 a game last season, her and A'ja could easily combine for 40-45 of the teams points every night. I look forward to seeing how Elizabeth Kittley grows as a rookie with this squad and Hammon's coaching.

DALLAS WINGS
IN: DiJonai Carrington, Tyasha Harris, NaLyssa Smith, reserved rights of Mikiah Herbert Harrigan, No. 12 pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft and future pick swaps
OUT: Satou Sabally (PHX), Natasha Howard (IND), Kalani Brown (PHX), Sevgi Uzun (PHX), Jacy Sheldon (CON)

CC says: This is another team I know little about, but did get to see play a few times last year. Noticeably, Satou is gone, but Arike is buckets, the buzzer beater dagger who isn't afraid to shoot. When I watched them last year, they also had Odyssey Sims on a ten-day contract and I think she's been picked up somewhere else. Losing Satou, Howard and Brown is tough, and I was kinda looking forward to seeing what a healthy Jacy could do (gotta rep the VA girls), but she might be a good fit in Conn. Picking up Smith and Harris are huge, and DiJonai is an awesome pickup, especially for her defensive skills. I watched some clips from Unrivaled this week, and her jump shot is pretty nice too. They will not be last place in defensive rating this year. Also, the big thing is that they still have the #1 pick, and they need a PG. Enter Paige Bueckers?

CHICAGO SKY
IN: Courtney Vandersloot, Kia Nurse, Rebecca Allen
OUT: Diamond Deshields, Dana Evans, Lindsay Allen

CC says: Chicago has a solid young post pair in last year's rookies Angel Reese and Kamila Cardoso. Having Vandersloot back in Chicago opens the floor more for some pick and roles and Kia Nurse is solid. People love/hate Reese. I'm indifferent at best, but I can tell she's putting in the work. Cardoso healthy, and her improving helps Chicago a lot. I don't need Reese shooting three's, but if she can hit 6 out of 10 from around 15 feet and in, with her speed and rebounding skills, she could start averaging 15pts/10 rebs for a few years in career if she keeps putting in the work.

I'm throwing it out there... Why did the WNBA logo change, but not the NBA?

the league rebranded about 10 years ago. went for a more modern look and moved forward and slightly away from the nba logo with the white and orange color scheme, like the ball. we're actually on the third version of the logo.

this article is pretty good about it
