🇷🇺🇺🇦 Discussion: Relations with Russia and the war in Ukraine

^We're still hearing from these two vile buffoons so they've not actually lost anything in terms of reach of their bull****.

Russia needs it's neighbours more than the need Russia. If Ukraine managed to get it's own gas pipeline flowing west and joined the EU then Russia would be screwed. Europe would not be as dependant on Russian gas and the Ukraine would be less dependant on Russia for trade.
Russian brass lying to cover up their failures thus far. 'We failed on purpose it was a trick, you see. A distraction! Eat it up, dip sticks!!'

Daily Kos - Ukraine update: Russia now claims they meant to lose in Kyiv and Kharkiv (liberal blog)
I always thought Russia would struggle to hold much of this territory they captured. It didn't seem realistic that they could hold all these captured lands given Ukrainians determination and Russia's own supply/logistical issues. This is why Putin hoped Zelensky would flee and the whole invasion would be wrapped up in a week. Putin believed he could insert a puppet government blacked by Russian forces that could pacify any Ukrainian domestic rebellion to his regime change.
Putin has been salty about Harry Potter since the filmmakers admitted they based Dobby the house elfs appearance on Putin.

Problem with this is that US is so unreliable these days. I mean, if Trump returns as president I'm sure he will cancel the deal.

That was my first thought too.
No offense but the republicans become more and more unstable, seems Not a smart idea to go from one dependency to the Next when there soon could be trump or some lunatic like him become presidents.

CNBC - Biden says Putin ‘cannot remain in power’ in sweeping speech on Russian invasion of Ukraine
  • President Joe Biden said Russian leader Vladimir Putin “cannot remain in power” over his invasion of Ukraine.
  • In a sweeping speech in Poland that marked the finale of a three-day trip to Europe, Biden urged democracies around the world to unify and commit to a long fight against authoritarian aggression.

While a White House official claimed the President was only speaking about Russia's power over its neighbors (lol yeah ok) and not doing anything to directly facilitate regime change in Russia, it's clear Biden wanted this out there. He never liked Putin, even from the beginning of Putin's reign. (And neither did I, I didn't trust Bush nor Putin.)

Biden calls Putin 'a butcher' after meeting with refugees in Poland - CNNPolitics

Putin isn't getting any younger, who knows how long he lasts regardless of any Russian internal strife. But the bigger and longer term conflict is with Putinism - which Russia is infected with from the top down. Just because Putin dies or is removed doesn't mean his beliefs and methods go away - not just in Russia but in the entire world where this conservatism resides, including in the United States itself.

Worst kept secret in the world is that countries don't try to effect regime changes. LOL.

Sadly the racism in many European countries has become all too apparent the last month. Here in Sweden even some right-wing parties notorious for wanting to reduce immigration (or stop it all together) are suddenly showing a little more benevolent side when it comes to Ukrainian refugees, because Ukrainans "are a lot like us". They aren't exactly hiding that they think there's a difference between Europeans and people from some other parts of the world.

Footage has surfaced allegedly showing Ukrainian soldiers torturing Russian prisoners:

Granted, the account that posted it is basically a pro-Kremlin propagandist (although it was apparently posted elsewhere first). However, if it turns out to be true, it should be condemned and those involved prosecuted.

War crimes are war crimes, no matter who's committing them.

During my days as a network/phone technician and union/bargaining team representative, I would listen in on bargaining planning and strategy calls by Human Resources and their bargaining team, but I never broadcasted it. I had a better attendance record than anyone on their team. :funny: The statute of limitations has long since expired.

The Russians are trying to take the capitol again after lying days ago that they didn't care about it and were really about the taking/holding the east.

Essentially just don’t rely on anything Putin and co say, just use satellite images to see when all the troops have F’d off.
