Yes, the Azov Battalion is terrible. One can only hopes they are wiped out by Russia before the end. But, in a war where Ukraine is keeping all fighting age men in the country to fight the war, well, sometimes you have to accept help from villains. Let us not forget who our allies were at the end of WW2.

While the Azov Battalion certainly is a problem, they are not having the numbers that makes them a strong chess piece here.
Its a group that sprung because of Putin...because he decided in 2014 to basicly invade eastern Ukraine.

I saw this being used a few times already as what? Justification? excuse why Putins war is okay?
He tears apart a country with 40 million people and people use a battalion of 900-1500 to somehow make it less awful what Putin does?

Don't know who "we" is, but take, for example, the US and suppose it was being invaded by "communists" LOL. Do you think groups like Proud Boys would be fighting? If so, would that mean that the current president was a white supremacist? These groups and people exist and, in some countries, actually enjoy the same legal protections as all other citizens. People actually HAVE brought up the Azov battalion in the past, but they are not representative of the Ukrainian people and the fact that they exist does not mean that Ukraine should not be given aid when an aggressor attacks them.

NATO isn't sending people to fight in the war, but I think it reasonable to send both military and humanitarian aid. To just completely ignore the type of aggression we are seeing against Ukraine is to open the door to allowing a larger country swallow up multiple countries against their will. Next time it could be you.

There was an article this week on the Finnish national broadcasting company Yle's website about the Azov battalion and it seems paint them as neo-Nazis is really Russian propaganda. It's a bit more complex. They did have originally in 2014 just about every far right or nationalist element from Ukraine they could find, football hooligans and what not, but have cleaned up the ranks from the fringe elements.

Most of the information in the article is from Polish researcher Kacper Rekawek. He says people often consider the Azov battalion and the Azov movement as the same which is not true. There is no structural connection between the two, even though some members have connections. However, they only accept native Ukrainians, with the exception of some "veterans" from 2014.

That's what they call the 'autocracy trap'. Autocrats get rid of the competent (because they could challenge them for power) and 'disloyal' (disloyalty defined as not telling the autocrat what they already wanted to hear), leaving them with the dumber but 'loyal'. So they do not end up surrounded by the best and brightest that their country has to offer.

It obviously doesn't. From a statistical perspective, you will ALWAYS find people of a particular persuasion in a large enough group. It's called the bell curve. The question is what the policy of a given country is or what policies are being pushed by the political leadership. Clearly Ukraine isn't a fascist regime. If you used the very existence of nazis or white supremacists or whatever as a litmus test for invasion, any country in the world could be invaded; and that includes Russia.

As far as how far NATO, or a particular country in NATO, should go in terms of defending Ukraine, that is, or should be, a matter for open debate and this is exactly why dictators have a tendency to make poorer decisions; an exchange and debate of ideas isn't what is desired or valued. If someone thinks Ukraine shouldn't be receiving help from NATO aligned countries, I'd like to hear the rationale. You see, you get to express unpopular opinions here without going to jail.

I'm just gonna say this, I had an uncle who committed suicide for being ordered to bomb a village in North Korea, yet when I was growing up I faced much racism from Korean immigrants in Cerritos, California. I had several uncles and cousins who served and died in Vietnam, only to face the same discrimination from Vietnamese immigrants who were brought here. I have lived around the world and I am sick and tired of made to feel like a guest in my own country by people from other countries. And before you assume I am some weak pot smoking hippy I was going to be deployed in the army until in 1992 until I got jumped by Wah-Ching. I defended myself valiantly yet these gangbangers pressed charges on me and the sergeant tore up my enlistment papers.

After watching Asian immigrants kill each other (shooting up pool halls, kidnappings, extortion, etc.) in San Gabriel Valley California for over 20 years this land passes an anti-Asian hate crime and makes me the face of their hate!!! Yet It takes this backflipping country 100 years to pass an ever loving lynch law!!! Are you kidding me?

It is utter hypocrisy to allow the descendants of those people to wallow away in poverty while this blasted country provides lactate for everyone else in the world.
