🇷🇺🇺🇦 Discussion: Relations with Russia and the war in Ukraine

The Kremlin has declined to say whether the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, apologised to Israel’s prime minister, Naftali Bennett, for his foreign minister’s claims that Adolf Hitler had Jewish blood.

As I said, can't even admit to making an apology, as that would make Putin seem weak.

So, it looks like Ukraine hit another Russian warship, the Admiral Makarov. So, 2 warships down. Not bad for a nation with no navy.

Ah, but you see, this is all part of Putin's master plan.

So.....this whole discussion/criticism about how the US is "targeting" Russian generals and other military targets rather confuses me. Ukraine is carrying out military strikes with intelligence and hardware provided by their allies. The last I heard, Ukraine isn't targeting residential/civilian targets in Russia. Can the same be said for the Russian military?

It's not a game of Monopoly.

The argument is that Putin might use US intelligence assistance to Ukraine as an excuse to escalate to WW3.

Its kinda dumb though since Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the Russians have known that the US is providing intel to Ukraine since day 1.

The people scare-mongering about it causing WW3 are crying wolf. Putin will do everything in his power to avoid a war with NATO because he knows his rusted out military would be toast.

Wouldn't that be nice? Let him burn through his entire arsenal.

That's bad actually, because when their missiles run out they'll have to resort to unguided munitions which are even more indiscriminate and effective.

Indiscriminate might be better than targeting apartment buildings, hospitals, and other civilian installations.

The bottom line is those kinds of munitions are inferior to what Ukraine is getting and IF that's basically all Russia had, it would be a decided edge to Ukraine.

I agree. Putin will target civilians no matter what weapons he has to use.

Can you even imagine the outrage if Ukraine were to do what Russia is doing? Putin seems to take the attitude that he can indiscriminately target and kill Ukrainian civilians, but if Ukraine gets help from other countries to defend itself or targets Russian production facilities, it's an escalation of hostilities.

It's like the schoolyard bully saying "I'm gonna punch you in the face until you're unconscious, but if you hit me back, things are going to get worse".

The most outrageous part is Putin using the deaths of civilians in the Donbas at the hands of the Ukrainian army (in a war that he literally started) as an excuse to invade. As if the guy who flattened Grozny, Aleppo and now Mariupol is in ANY position to start lecturing others about excessive force.
