Haven't seen Longlegs yet, but Oddity might be my favorite horror of the year so far. Great double performance from the lead and just some creepy direction visually and narratively. Atmosphere off the charts. The ending didn't reach as high as it's best moments, but it all plays very well as a whole. The hubris of man in this one is despicable.

Over the past month, I've seen so many people on Film Twitter try to do critical revisionism for Prometheus and even Alien 3 and Resurrection. And these aren't even usual nostalgia bait accounts, but critics and pundits whose takes I usually respect. But these are truly horrid messes of movies, I just don't get what's possessing folks to go to bat for them...

La Chimera

Alice Rohrwacher Is a masterful director.

Been a week since I’ve seen and it stays with me. The Fellini influence is here, but I suppose it is difficult for any filmmaker to leave his shadow of influence when you touch his dream- like surrealism. This often plays like a dark comedy and then into a lost romance, while the darkness leans in bit by bit. Josh O’Connor is great. In my top 10 of the year for sure.

It's sitting at #1 for me on the year. It's so mystifying and alluring. There are some incredible directorial flourishes all up and down this film. O'Connor is incredible in it, everybody is, but the stand out for me was Duarte. She was oozing empathy.

That Tarantino podcast interview with Bill Maher was awesome, mainly because Tarantino gets absolutely toasted during it via smoking pot and drinking. About three quarters of the way through, he is full on slurring words and was hilarious. Love to see it.

He also had some choice words to say about Toy Story 4 which he frankly wasn't in the wrong about.
