🥇Paris 2024 Summer Olympics

KJT fighting for the Heptathlon gold, currently in the 2nd spot and going well. Just sent her shot putt miles.
I missed this but am a big fan of heptathlon and really hope she can win. Did she do well in all the events or have any that were below par?

She has just taken the lead now going into day two but its going to be very very close, she did very well in the Shot put with personal best but wasnt as quick as she can be in the 200m so gave back a bit in that. From what they were saying it will likely come down to her long jump which is her weakest event tomorrow.

Thanks for the update . Will catch up later tonight. A shame she couldn’t nail the running event but good to hear about a shot put PB. Hope she can put in a great performance tomorrow but I hope worst case she at least gets silver. GB have had a great history with female heptathletes.

Just seen the 200m and I didn’t realise Lyles didn’t get silver either. He looked much weaker than normal in the last quarter of the race so I guess the illness impacted him. Congrats to Bednarek on a solid performance in both 100m and 200m. That was an amazing run by Tebogo and he won with a great time. A real shame he lost his mum a couple of months before getting the gold and he said he would be running for her, very happy for him to get the win.

She won the event like an experienced champ, in full control all the way. Very proud!

Yes! Gabby Thomas is the favourite but Julien is the second favourite and it’s expected to be one of them 2 to win.

Good point. I feel like I’ve seen someone at least try but can’t remember. As you say, not only is hurdles very technical, 400m is a horrendous distance lol. I think it’s harder to recover from quickly enough compared to the shorter sprints. Bolt had potential in the 400m but said combining that with the shorter sprints (400 was his original event) was much more work involving much more hardcore and nuanced training than for the 100 and 200.

She's brilliant, I wonder if she'll branch out into any other races.

I only saw the race later on BBC's YouTube channel, Gabby Thomas won pretty comfortably, is she running the 4x100m or 4x400m relay?

I think you might be right but I haven't been able to find anything. 🤔 The most impressive double I've seen is Michael Johnson winning the 200m and 400m at the Atlanta Olympics in '96, so hard to combine those distances given the endurance the 400m takes, I remember when I saw my first race track in PE at school, I was in shock big it was :funny:

I saw she’d won and I was going to come in here and be smart and say bad day at the office if gold and no new world record lol. Even with the world record it’s only par for her haha. Congrats to a great champion.

As great as Femke is, Sydney is just on another level, it's going tombe interesting to see what she goes for at the next Olympics and the World's in-between.

Well I missed eveyrhting today. I knew Tebogo was good but beating Lyles at 200m is a huge accomplishment. Lucky Lyles sneaked the 100m or he’d be empty handed for golds (apart from the relay). Oh just read Lyles had COVID, damn terrible timing. Hope he’s ok. :csad:

Yeah he was wheeled off, very questionable whether he should have been running with Covid, as he could pass it to the other athletes.

Athing Mu who won at age 19 (same as Keely) fell at the US trials and missed this Olympics. She would have been the favourite I’m sure, so I’m very glad Keely took the opportunity to get gold now. She did 400m at U23 level and won a European bronze.

I don’t know re Gabby Thomas - I’d love to see her in both. I have a big wish that one day we’ll see a dominant sprinter who is great at 100m, 200m and 400m and anchors both relays for their country to gold. Allyson Felix used to run both 100m and 400m relays for the US and won golds at both in the same tournament.

If Bolt was more dedicated he could have come close given he started as a talented 400m runner who was very good for his age. Plus after he’d won World and Olympic golds at 100m and 200m with 2 world records in each, he might have thought that work was worth it for a potential 2 extra medals (including the relay). Also a first in getting all 3 sprints. The other reason I think he would have had a chance is that he could to an extent coast all the way through to the 100m and 200m finals and even in the finals not necessarily give everything to win (at his peak).

Femke should have chosen whichever event Sydney didn’t lol. I’ve just seen the race and she smashed her own record. She’s taken it down so much lower than where it was before she first broke it. The longstanding 400m world record is 47.60. Only a few seconds faster than her 400m hurdles time - I’m sure she can break that too.

Good point. Maybe that will rule him out of the relay, and he may have passed it on to US teammates too.

Sydney McLaughlin is basically showing Michael Johnson and Usain Bolt levels of dominance at her event! :wow: another world record as well, I hope she tries to run under 50 seconds before switching to the 400m.
She’s a UK Wildcat. Of course she’s great.

... I'll be impressed when he shows us three of them. :o

Don't blame me I'm a Dark Magician Queen. :o

What a game. You can’t tell me that the US Basketball team doesn’t take this seriously. They were fighting.

This men's basketball semifinal game is EPIC!!!! It is better than this year's NBA Finals lol.

To me it seems the US team had underestimated Serbia at the beginning of the game (well...they blow them out in the group stage after all) but thankfully they got serious in the 4th quarter to take this and win the game!

And this semifinal game is the reason why I will greatly miss LeBron, Steph, and KD when they eventually retires. What a special generation these 3 really are!...My goodness I got emotional at the end of the game haha

And I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this, but she went to the University of Kentucky. So that should be on the list too.

She’s a former Wildcat, just like 25% of the US men’s basketball team and 25% of the Canadian basketball team.

I’m surprised they were that far behind to Jokic and co but it still takes something special to be able to come back.

I’ve caught up now.

So fine in hurdles, PB in shot put, post-injury best in high jump (best in 5 years) but just not quite at it in the 200m.

She’s still first after the long jump and javelin today despite the tough competition, let’s see if she can bring it home in the 800m. I don’t know how strong her rivals are in that event though.

Edit: oh didn’t realise her main rival still has her javelin to do.

Bronze Medal match for Women's Football between Spain vs Germany now!

Lets go, Espana!😁

Indeed...after the US were behind 13pts entering the 4th quarter, I say if they cannot reduce their trailing to a single digit after 5 minutes play, then thats it for the US.

But what we witness next instead is the epic comeback for the US.
Bron, KD, Steph all scored the last 13 points for USA....oh, I will never bad mouthing Joel Embiid ever again haha😆... without his contribution especially his defensive play against Jokic, the US would certainly not win.

Germany goalkeeper is so good...lol
If not because of her, Spain would've won by at least 2 goals...and she saved the penalty at the last minutes!

Congrats Germany on the bronze in women's football/soccer.

Hope the Spain men's team who will win the gold instead, tonight against France.
