10-15 min. X-Men film with.........

Ok. Before anyone tries to discourage me, I am just saying that their is a possibility that I plan to film a short, 10-15 min. fanfilm, based on the X-Men characters. Of course, i will not be using mind-blowing CGI, just plain old home built effects. So, the only problem is, I am not as "knowledgable" with x-men as i wish i was (it's been awhile). So, I am wondering, if anyone here could possibly help answer any questions I may have, in case I hit any bumps in the road? Help is very much appreciated. Here are some of the ideas I have, minus spoilers:
*A team of X-men have been sent to rescue a fellow member from*&$@#!
*4-5 X-Men are on the team
*It takes place after X-3:The Last Stand

Why would you make a fan film for something you aren't that knowledgeable in??

You'd be better off making a fan film about something you know well. It's just easier.

Thanks for some replies guys, i appreciate it. I got the ultimate guide, and i've been reading it. and, ive been into the astonishing comic series, it is completely awesome i must say.

Now, im not completely unknowledgable about x-men. ive read several comics years ago, i was completely into the animated series in the 90's (i actually have vhs's that are 13 years old, i watched them the other day cuz i never remembered i had them, and they are pretty damn good). I grew up with the x-men, the thing is, when i was 7, i couldnt understand everything about them as well as i can now, which is why I am getting back into it. The thing is, once i got out of elementary school, i really hadn't been into superheroes n stuff nemore. It wasnt until the end of highschool that i actually appreciated them, and i've been into them eversince. So, its not like i am not knowledgable at all, i just am not as knowledgable as I kno alot of you guys are, which is why im researching and asking for anyone's help that would like to.

Hi guys, thanks for the positive posts. The negative ones haven't come yet, but i'm sure they will. lol. Anyway, i've talked to several people, from both this website and through friends' of mine, and am working on the plot. I found an awesome makeup guy, so he's on board. Also, I hope to have some concept art posted soon, if i can find out how the heck to post them on the hype (im pretty much computer ******ed).

Also, i changed the format of the film. It will no longer be a 5-10 minute short. However, i cant release what I changed it to, until i'm sure it can be done (i dont want to dissapoint anyone, including myself), so, hopefully more positive posts will fill the thread, and of course, negative ones will be welcomed just the same. So, keep me motivated guys, hopefully this thing will turn out great.
