FINALLY, the US has a great monster movie, so it's almost a given that a Cloverfield 2 is a must!!

But what direction should the movie head in...

EDIT...January 21, 2008

Max Evry of Comingsoon.net interviews Director Matt Reeves. Here are his comments about a possible sequel and the monter's origin:

CS: Any possibilities for a "Cloverfield" sequel?
Reeves: This was so fun 'cause we'd never done anything like it, and I think we'd want to find a similar challenge, to find a way to have its roots in this but be fresh and new, otherwise you're just repeating yourself. There's a moment on the Brooklyn Bridge, and there was a guy filming something on the side of the bridge, and Hud sees him filming and he turns over and he sees the ship that's been capsized and sees the headless Statue of Liberty, and then he turns back and this guy's briefly filming him. In my mind that was two movies intersecting for a brief moment, and I thought there was something interesting in the idea that this incident happened and there are so many different points of view, and there are several different movies at least happening that evening and we just saw one piece of another. That idea sort of tickled me. We'll have to see if anyone would want a sequel. If the movie does well and we find a compelling reason to do so then it would be fun to do a sequel.

Did you see the thing in the last shot? In the final shot there's a little something, and I don't wanna say what it is. The final shot before the titles. The stuff at Coney Island, there's a little something there and I don't want to give it away 'cause the fun is sort of to find it, but I will say this: there's a funny thing, you look at the shot and until you see it you don't see it and you really don't see it and obviously you don't 'cause none of you have seen it, but once you see it you'll never stop seeing it.
CS: It's the thing dropping in the water, right?
Reeves: Ahh, you saw it.

It's never too early to start a topic like this...

Well we know Abrams wants it to be a franchise, and there's a bunch of different ways they could go. And with how much money they made in the first day alone, it's pretty plain to see we'll be getting at least one sequel.

I think the most likely is the one the director spoke of, which is the same attack told from a different point of view. I'd like to see it from a news crews perspective, cause that would give it an entierly different feel while still recapturing the first person view of the first film. Instead of a rescue mission led by civilians, we'd get guys trying to figure things out and report on this monster.

I also wouldnt mind seeing a more classic style one, from the militaries point of view. You could have it still be filmed in some unique way, but it could be more of your standard monster vs army movie.

I'd also like to see Mr. Grumpy Pants fight a different monster at some point :o

you guys saw the scene after the credits?
that's a way to go.

Number two should be the news and three should be the military.

there was a scene, I thought it was just audio?

you want it to be an hour and a half of a black screen with a guy talking backwards?

This is exactly how a sequel should go!

NO Cloverfield 2!!!!!

CFE

I Want In The Sequel It Begins Where Cloverfield Finished And See The Monster If This Is Possible More Than 4 ****ed Minutes...

I'd say same attack with a new group of people would be the best way to go with this. Having another monster attack in a new city I feel would be lame, and having another group in the first attack can answer some questions Cloverfield did not answer for us.

Anyone getting a feeling that Jason might pop up in a possible sequel, getting found by other people?

That would be interesting...but I would prefer not even showing any of the characters in Cloverfield.

Yeah...
no body=no death

Well seeing as how the military couldn't kill it, perhaps this creature could wreak havoc all over the country, and just keep from NY and make a path of destruction, while having the military keep shooting at it, but have fresh characters, already knowing that this thing is killing people, but thinking it'll be "cool" to film it and show it to the world to see, much like what Hud was thinking.

And then also, instead of having a "love story", instead have a part of the sequel be an "origin" story...one of the characters could be a newscaster trying to find out the scoop about the monster, than finds out when the monster arrived and everything.

It should, however, be taken placed after the military or whoever viewed the "Cloverfield" tape.

Acually, not speaking about Jason, but a cameo of that Lily chick who survived would help continuity some.

If it is the same monster just going further in, that would be cool. But, a different monster I think would be cliche.

I would like some subtle ties with the first movie though. Like the asian man that was trying to talk to the group. Maybe the next group of people will help him. Stuff like that.

This monster is not franchiseable.
