10 Worst Superhero sequels according to Time Magazine

I think Superman Returns gets WAY more crap then it deserves, especially for it being placed at
#1
on the list

Superman Returns is also what I disagreed with.Although I don't think the movies are in any type of order.

Superman Returns isn't number one on the list, that is Batman & Robin. Actually SR is #10.

It wasn't at that number
their list

1. Batman & Robin
2. Superman 4
3. BM Forever
4. X3
5. Punisher WZ - wft? this wasn't a sequel
6. FF- ROTSS - this should've been higher
7. Spider-Man 3
8. XO- Wolverine
9. Blade Trinity
10. Superman Returns - I don't think it deserved to be on the list

Don't understand what kind of countdown starts with 1 but w/e, either way Superman Returns does not deserve to be on that list. Just put Superman 3 if they wants Sups on there that bad

I'm kinda surprised Wolverine is on the list. I didn't know it was that unpopular. The others were all predictable shoe ins.

Really even before it was released with the leak and all people had been saying it sucked. In fact I prefer X3 to Wolverine. Not by a lot mind you but still.

Pretty much the usual candidates there are a few though, that although they are considering widely as bad, I actually liked.. :O

Is Superman Returns classed as a sequel? Either way, if the article was "Top 10 worst superhero films" then Superman Returns should rightly have a place somewhere in the lineup.

I agree with most of that list, but I think Spider-man 3, X-men TLS, and Supes Returns were more disapointments than just being bad. On their own, they aren't awful movies.

Well put although the idea of Cyclops and Venom dying with little to no effort will ruin ANY movie

Well that's arguable. Spider-man 3 and X-Men: The Last Stand were flat out horrible from my perspective. Superman Returns I'd just class as forgettable.

Actually Superman returns is #2... on my list of best Superman movies so far.

I can agree with the rest.

Superman Returns is a great movie. Sorry it wasn't what people were expecting. Sorry it tried to tell a different type of story to most superhero movies. Sorry it was admittedly one action set piece short. Great movie nonetheless.

Punisher: War Zone is not a sequel, nor a superhero movie. It should be disqualified, same with Blade: Trinity for the second reason.

I don't think Superman Returns, Batman Forever, X-Men: The Last Stand, or Wolverine are bad movies actually; Superman Returns I regard as more of a missed opportunity than anything. It disappoints me that a filmmaker as strong as Bryan Singer chose to ape Richard Donner's style so much, but he had a terrific story to play with, of Superman coming back home, wondering if there's a place for him at all, if the world does indeed need Superman - I just don't think it explored that enough. I also think Kevin Spacey was wasted, again, because this is Bryan Singer trying to do a Richard Donner movie instead of creating a fresh and menacing take on Lex Luthor. Brandon Routh is a great Superman, though, I have no complaints with his performance.

Batman Forever is really an incredibly watchable, entertaining movie. It always gets lumped beside Batman & Robin, but Forever has a lot more character depth and explores the mentality of Bruce in a way not even Nolan's films have done. It looks at duality and obsession and presents being Batman as a curse. Forever had the potential to be the best superhero movie ever, absolutely. It didn't get there, but it certainly does not deserve to be on any 'Worst of' lists.

As for X-Men III, it's a decent movie, some good parts (Kitty, Beast), others bad (Juggernaut, rapid fire slaughter of the main characters). Essentially it has two main flaws; it's ending Bryan Singer's trilogy without Bryan Singer; and it's extremely rushed, both in production time and running time. It should have been so much better, but it's no Superman IV. It did give us a level of superhero spectacle than some say was lacking from Singer's efforts. Rattner is a better action director (Singer is really a thriller director, not an action director). I like X-Men III, it's just simply not as good as the previous two.

As for Wolverine....it's just limp, lame and pointless. A needlessly convoluted story with embarassingly forced emotion, by-the-numbers action scenes (except the climactic 2 vs 1 battle which was effective)...it's not even shot very well, and somehow has worse CGI than the first X-Men movie ten years ago on half the budget. Wolverine is the sort of movie which simply annoys the viewer as it is loaded with stupid mistakes - plotlines which don't go anywhere, characters introduced for no real reason. A very poor effort.

I agree with Kevin Roegele. Batman Forever in no way belongs on this list, let alone at #3.

I would put SuperMan 2 and 3 pretty high on the list, the were much worse than SuperMan Returns, FF 2, Batman Forever, etc.

Even though I enjoyed some of these films, like Punisher, FF2, and Wolverine, the inclusion of Blade Trinity and Superman Returns pretty much sealed my acceptance of this list.

Despite my disappointment with BT and SR the only film on the list that I just can't watch is Batman and Robin. Most of the others at least had some decent to good parts.

3. BM Forever
4. X3
7. Spider-Man 3
8. XO- Wolverine

I do not agree with these. However, the rest I either agree with, or didn't care to see.

Superman Returns is on that list but not Superman III? Yep, that's bull.

These lists should always be called, 'Most Famous....." whatever, as that's what they deal in, so everyone can agree or disagree.

A REAL list of worst superhero sequels would include The Return of Swamp Thing, The Guyver: Dark Hero, etc, but since most readers have never even heard of such films, it's pointless to include them.

Wolverine should've been higher, and the listed should have totally included superman 3.
also I like War Zone, and thought F4 2, while still not that great, was an improvement over the first, and benefits greatly from the inclusion of the Silver Surfer.
