According to the company's internal tracking, PS3 sales increased by more than 135 percent at the company's top five retailers since the new $499 price was introduced back on July 9. Furthermore, during this two-week period, total PlayStation hardware sales increased by 161 percent, software increased by 15 percent and peripherals by 60 percent.
As for June, SCEA noted that the PlayStation brand "continued to exhibit solid growth evidenced by a 21 percent increase in total retail dollars generated year-over-year in North America with total sales of $393 million." PS3 sales grew 21 percent in North America, up from May's 98,469 units sold at retail (some quick math would show that a 21 percent increase yields over 119K). In addition, the PSP grew 31 percent year-over-year, selling 290,108 units. The PS2 did well for itself again as well, selling through 270,763 for the month.
