I've been watching it on Netflix lately. It's pretty good. There's a lot of Stan Lee humor in it.

I relaly enjoyed the 1981 carton. It's sad that it doesn't have a big reputation.

Yeah, not many people really know about it compared to the other shows. It's often forgotten in some lists and stuff and it's pretty entertaining. I haven't seen them all but my favorites that I've seen are the Doctor Doom episodes and the Green Goblin episode.

Yeah, I watched the X-Men episode last night. I l still love it. It's so hammy, and it oozes with that classy over the top comic book goodness; I can't help but enjoy it.

I remember watching it as a kid. Such a random pairing, though. Ha.

I didn't know there was another 80s show. I'll have to check it out on YouTube sometime.

I did too, I still love it, better than the other show with better reputation

Same Aunt May VA here voiced her for the most part before passing away in the 90s cartoon

Best animated version of Dr. Doom, in all ways
You guys know this story of Doom was based on the newspaper strips? There was a story where Jonah calls Doom "Your highness"

That one you speak of is Spider-Man & His Amazing Friends, the one this thread about has a different VA for Spidey and he goes solo

80s started the trend of two Spider-Man cartoons each decade, I wonder if this decade will have another Spider-Man cartoon as well as the three before it

I didn't know either of those things, cool! I also agree on the best Dr. Doom part, although I think the 90s Fantastic Four 2nd season is also a great version of him.

Doom was in a lot of episodes! Haha, it was odd, and awesome. The show was typical 80s cartoon stuff, but not as much as Amazing Friends. It felt more like an updated version of the 60's show, and I swear they used similar shots here and there.

Only swinging shots were used more than ones
This cartoon felt a bit darker than the two it's sanwiched between

As a child of the late 80s and early 90s, this was my Spider-Man cartoon. This and Amazing Friends were the Spidey cartoons that I always got nostalgic, and not the 90s series oddly enough. I didn't know the 60s show even existed until I was in junior high and this Saturday Morning Cartoon's Greatest Hits covers compilation was released. I saw brief snippets of that show on the tv ad, while they played some of the Ramones' cover of the theme song, and I'd feel weirded out because it didn't look or sound like any Spidey show I remembered.

I was born after this made its initial run but I was always lucky enough to catch it in syndication (alongside the Amazing Friends series) or to get the VHS tapes when I'd see them on sale ( they were pretty available when I was a kid). Still have some of those tapes cluttering up shelves.

The one thing that this series and the SEGA Spider-Man arcade game really implanted in my head was a big Spidey/Doom conflict which I didn't even learn was not the great rivalry I thought it was until I just started buying my own comics and ironically enough picked up Spider-Man Classic #6 (reprint of first Spidey/Doom clash), which I mainly picked up because the cover reminded me of the series.

I always figured that Amazing Friends was a spinoff series sort of like Justice League Unlimited and I still think that it can work in that way though I know better now. It's too bad that NBC didn't care enough back then to package this show alongside Amazing Friends instead of rerunning the same SMAHAF episodes over and over again (like I'm sure they did). Maybe if they did, this show would have more nostalgic value now like Amazing Friends does. I've been going through episodes of the series a lot lately and while it's still every bit as enjoyable to me, the one place where I feel it really lacked was in not featuring just a little more of Spidey's rogues gallery instead of typical 80s generic baddies. I'm sure it might have been a lot cooler to see Scorpion, Shocker or Rhino pop up than Sidewinder or Professor "Gizmo".

I'm watching Amazing Friends now. The episode where Kingpin mind controls Captain America. Anyway. I remember watching both shows as a little kid and then nothing for a long time. Just before the 90s X-Men cartoon started there was a 3 tape boxed set released of Marvel animation. It included an Episode of Spider-Man, Return of the Green Goblin I believe, an episode of Amazing Friends with Mysterio and Hulk, and the epicakly awesome Pryde of the X-Men. All of which preceded by a public service announcement from a live action Spider-Man encouraging viewer to vote.

That must be this set.

I never saw the set as a kid but I had the tapes individually. I used to love collecting those Marvel Video! VHS tapes. Whenever I had some extra scratch and I'd see them for 3/$10 or something at a place like Odd Job, I'd go nuts and stock up. It was the same thing whenever I saw those old school comic bundles. I wish Disney would release all of those old series in some form. It's not too shabby that Marvel's putting them all on Netflix.

I always thought that Spider-Man Voting PSA was pretty strange and hilarious, especially how he signs his ballot as Spider-Man and how the ad seems to be aimed at kids too young to vote. My Pryde tape had that video and this old Spider-Man game ad preceding it.

That's the one. I got that for Christmas or a birthday one year. I still have the tapes somewhere, though the Spider-Man one was ruined by a friend's kid. Disney has at least given Netflix the rights to stream Spider-Man and Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends. I'm hoping to see Pryde of the X-Men someday. It's a shame that it's been overlooked for DVD release. It really should be available.

I used to hum it all the time. Kind of remember one of those embarrassing class moments when I thought I was humming it to myself but looked up to see everybody watching me.

disney would be well advised to put both 80's series on a single set collection-
Spider-Man: The complete 1980s Anthology
Spider-Man & His Amazing Friends: the complete saga
Amazing Friends & Foes: The Spider-Man 1980s Collection

Why the last one "Amazing Friends & Foes"?
