With the ultra dissapointing X-men: the Last Stand, and having read the novelization for Superman Returns, 2006 looks to be a dissapointing year for comic book movies.

Next year, there is so much promise. Ghost Rider, if it stays true to the comics, could be a enjoyable film, although I must admit, I'm somewhat skeptical about it.

But beyond that, we will have a Spider-man film that will feature Sandman and Venom, and also introduce us to the long awaited Captain Stacey and his daughter Gwen. Also eventhough the first film perhaps underachieved a bit, the new Fantastic Four movie, with Doom coming back and introducing Silver Surfer, the possibilities are endless here. This film should have much more creative freedom than the first with the origin story out of the way. Now it's down to the fun and fantasy, that made us all love reading the FF growing up.

Granted 2007 is no guaruntee, but I'm not seeing the warning signs I saw with X-men and Superman Returns (and am still seeing with SR). Also I am basing my thoughts on SR, from the novelization and from the trailers I've seen. Hopefully the movie will outperform both. But even is SR is everything we've hoped it to be that doesn't fix the major let down from X-men: The Last Stand.

S-M3 will make 2007 an awesome year period.

2007 is a good year, but 2008 would be a better year. Marvel with Iron Man and Hulk 2, DC Comics with Batman 2 and hopefully Flash.

I just remember Transformers is 2007. Since it seems the movie will diverge a lot from the cartoon/comics, it won't make that much impact.

2007 looks good, and I am really excited about 2008 (IRON MAN!), but to dimiss 2006 is pre-mature, I'm not sure way everyone is bashing X3, it made $193 million worldwide, the film was fantastic. I wasn't sure about Superman, but the preview I saw before X3 has peeked my interest, so don't flush '06, its been good so far.

I don't see why that will matter success-wise

SM-3 is the big one it will be a standout from this years offerings imo,GR and F4/2 have potential if they are given the support needed

Basing a preconceived opinion of SR on the novelization sounds like a big mistake to me. Don't count that one out.

Besides, I don't completely agree with original assertion that this year is a disapointment. 2006 may be as disapointing a year as 2005 for MARVEL...but not DC. I think both of these years belong to DC. 2005 had Constantine which was at least entertaining, and Batman Begins which was fantastic. In 2006 we have had V for Vendetta which was remarkable and will get Supes Returns which I think will be just as much so. Marvel is just having a rough time over these two years, but DC is making up for it. 2007 will definitely belong to Marvel.

I agree 2008 will be the best year I think.
Iron Man
Batman Begins sequel
and The Incredivle Hulk

Well, I guess I'm the odd man out, since the last comic book movie I saw & can truly say wasn't good was "Elektra". And I have no interest in seeing "Superman Returns".

As I said above, it's a bit too early to put the final verdict on SR, however it looks like a train wreck ready to happen. I read the novelization and it's all EMO stuff, which I don't think is going to sit well with people.

Are you sure you're not confusing EMO stuff with genuine character development? I'm asking seriously. If you think they go to mushy with it, let us know specifically. Use Spoiler tags, whatever.

I bet you Hulk doesn't come out in 2008.

Batman 2 is moving too slowly for it to come out in 2008. For those who remember, Nolan started work on Batman in 2003. We are well into 2006 with not even a script written.

Nolan is still working on The Prestige right now.

we are only in June 2006,the first time he was new to the game, now Nolan is seasoned and has many things built ready, also there are drafts already written for BB2 and they could easily start shooting in January 2007 the same as Iron Man which also has no script

It won't come out then either.

Whose written these so called "drafts"?

Iron Man is being written RIGHT NOW. Last time I checked, Batman Begins isn't.

They are prepping Iron Man to be ready to shoot in January for a summer 2008 release date.

Batman Begins hasn't gotten to this stage either.

You basically think it will never come out right ?

Nolans brother has been working on it for ages now,i see no reason Nolan can't meet the Summer 2008 release,in fact i'll take that bet

Who is to say that Nolan will even direct it for certain?

:p

Ghost Rider looks tight as hell.

Fantastic Four 2 is gonna have SILVER SURFER and GALACTUS, which will be an epic moment for all marvel fans. :)

I think 2007 will be a great year with spectacular comic book movies, but I am going to have to see the S-M3 teaser trailer before I decide whether it'll be good or not, because I just think they're cramming WAY TOO MUCh into it and I don't wantto see Venom, Sandman, or anything ruined because of it! 2008 will be great as well, with Batman Begins 2. (Hugo Weaving for Joker!!!)

Daredevil also looked great from the teaser. MSJ is a fanboy, make no mistake about it.

Eh, I thought Daredevil's teaser was kinda wack. But the movie itself was awesome.

I hope next year will be great GR looks good but i've been tricked my trailors before ex.X-3. But I hated FF and hated SM2 so hopefully GR will save the comic book movies next year.

The Vile One, Nolans brother Johnathon Nolan, who wrote Memento, has been writing the script for BB2 for about 4 months now and The Prestige is out in October, so Nolan will have plenty of time to finish it for '08. Hulk 2 has also been stated various times as coming out in '08.

People are also forgetting that 2007 we will most probably get Punisher 2 as well as Spidey 3, FF2, Ghost Rider and Transformers.
