Why is there record of the year AND song of the year?

i've always wondered that so i looked it up a bit. one is based solely on the songwriting if i'm not mistaken.

1. my god, i cannot believe how much of an embarrassment popular music has become.

2. why doesnt a music award show understand that R&B (traditional R&B, more specifically) would equal rock and roll?

I got a good laugh out of the "Song Of The Year" category.

Kind of sucks Brand New didn't get nominated for Best Rock Album. Daisy is great, The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me got a nom though, back in 06...7? Oh well,

I'm On A Boat nominated for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration...CLASSIC!

And I would laugh my behind off if it won. It is great song though lol.

Why the [expletive] are the Black Eyed Peas nominated for so many [expletive]ing categories?! If they win anything, it'll only reinforce the misconception that they haven't gotten progressively worse with each album.

i want the Fame to win Album of the Year

And again Taylor Swift is nominated for top vocalist. :whatever:

I'm beginning to think Taylor and Kanye organized that VMA fiasco for the sake of further elevating their careers. Overnight Taylor Swift went from "that little country pop singer girl" to "that sweet country pop singer girl who was viciously interrupted by Kanye West on MTV and now we must shower her in awards and admiration!"

All the BEP and Taylor Swift nominations make me cry.

Worst collection of Grammy nominees EVER.

Though, I have to give the Grammy's some credit. Moreso than any of the other big awards shows, they REALLY go for what the public likes.

As long as Beyonce and Lady Gaga win, that's all I care about. Both of those ladies owned all of 2009.

MGMT for all they're nominated for. I'll pass on the rest.

MGMT being nominated is stupid. I love them, but "Oracular Spectacular has been out since 2007.

Same for The Tings Tings - love them, but "We Started Nothing" came out in 2008.

I can't think of a single category that Beyonce is nominated in where she is the most deserving to win.

Single Ladies as much as some people hate it, is worthy of at least one grammy.

let's face it, it's catchy as heck
the video is iconic, everyone knows the handflip, and it's sparked numerous videos and parodies
and the song has been EVERYWHERE this year

It also came out in 2008.

But, the other nominees in that category are better.
