2011 NFL Thread: The Lazarus Season - Part 6

Wow. Story of the Eagles season so far.

The Eagles (Dream Team) once again stumble.

I'd be surprised if the Eagles make it at this point. Really, they can only afford to lose one more game. But you know with the Giants schedule and Dallas blundering left and right, they are miraculously still in it. I think it's between them and New York right now.

Anyone want to give the Bears any credit at all? They were well beaten on pretty much every side of the football.

The difference Earl Bennett's presence on offense made last night was monumental. Cutler looks as good as anyone when he has a reliable receiver. (I counted four or five drops last night outside of Earl)

Huge game for the Bears last night. That kept them right in the playoff hunt and gives them quite a few tie breakers. Now an even bigger game this weekend against the Lions.

It's amazing how great Cutler can be when the line (and play calling) actually helps him out.

Between Forte and Cutler, the Bears offense could be quite potent if they got some decent linemen and a real deep threat receiver (I think they should've made an offer to Plax).

Stupid play by Phily. A fake punt? Chicago already has momentum. Why give them field position too? They could've pinned them right inside the five. Instead they may break the game wide open.

That was actually a great play, the Eagles player was uncovered. The punter just couldn't complete the throw.

Still think Mike Martz will be gone at the end of the season, so there is hope on the play calling front.

I think that's the Bears' top priority this offseason, getting a big, "go up and get it" receiver. Jay likes to let it go on occasion and the Bears don't have a receiver that can go up and get the ball. They have players that can fly, but no one to win a jump ball.

Their priority should be beefing up that offensive line. They'll get reminded of that again this weekend.

It is a rookie punter. And yes, I know that he was recruited as a quarterback, but he had his position changed in college for a reason. Why on Earth did they think that he could make that throw under the pressure of a punt block charging at him? A punter will make a throw like that 1 out of 100 times, no matter how open the receiver is.

I would understand it if things were desperate (a two score game) or there were 2 or 3 minutes left. But there was plenty of time left, Chicago only had a three point lead and Philadelphia still had some momentum on their side. They should've punted the ball and pinned Chicago deep. With a game that close, there is no reason to give them great field position, late in the game and give them the opportunity to make it a two score game. Granted, they didn't get into the endzone...but they did make it so Philly had to. If Philadelphia went through with the punt, they may have only need three points on that last drive rather than 6.

Call me conservative, but at that point in the game, under those circumstances, I think it was a dumb call.

I think that they need to focus on their line. Their receivers are passable. Not elite, but passable. Their line on the other hand is downright atrocious.

I agree the O-line still needs a ton of work, but I'd still like to see the Bears give Jay an elite weapon in the passing game. Knox and Hester are not going to win the fight for any ball.

I changed my thinking on this, I thought O-line was the priority, but seeing what a big time received can do and the way the rules favor receivers to begin with ... Jay needs an elite receiving weapon.

So Eagles lost again, at home, and against the Bears (who Vegas picked as 8-points underdog). With so many talents on this team, they sure play like crap. And Vick didn't even score a TD, which imo hasn't began to justify the new 100-million contract Eagles gave him this season. If Eagles miss the playoff, then heads are going to roll.

Hold on, Im trying to stop laughing..hahah.wait

RapSheet: BREAKING NEWS: The Patriots release Albert Haynesworth, the Herald reports

hahah

Damn, so much for that experiment.

Ocho, you Sir, are next on the chopping block.

I'm surprised that Ochocinco is still on the team. Last time I heard about #85 it was his tweet after how awed he was at Pats' offense, back in week 2 or something.

Yeah these pickups have been a rare embarrassment to the Hoodie, who can usually find a few gems among the Free Agent dross.

And T.O. still can't find a job...

Personally, I'd like to see the Bears use their picks to bolster their defense. Because I enjoy seeing Cutler running for his life, and also f*** the Bears...

Vick, Burress, Big Ben top Forbes' list of most disliked players

Michael Vick could become the NFL's version of Mother Teresa and still be despised by a large segment of the population that will always see him as the guy who went to jail for operating a dogfighting ring.

Vick has made a concerted effort to improve his public image since signing with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2010, but personal growth wasn't enough to keep him from being named the most disliked player in the NFL, according to a recent poll published by Forbes.

The poll -- conducted by Nielsen and E-Poll Market Research -- was limited to active players who scored a minimum 10 percent public-awareness level.

The list in full:

1. Vick
2. Plaxico Burress
3. Ben Roethlisberger
4. Albert Haynesworth
5. Jay Cutler
6. Chad Ochocinco
7. Vince Young
8. Carson Palmer
9. Tony Romo
10. Jeremy Shockey

My final prediction:

Bengals go 3-3 in the division.

Sweep the Browns
Split with the Ravens
Get swept by the Steelers

Steelers - L
Ravens - L
Browns - W
Steelers - L
Houston - L
Rams - W
Cardinals - L
Ravens - W (The Ravens will have already secured a playoff birth at this point, whereas the Bengals will probably be fighting for one.)

Houston usually has our number (even at home),so I count that as a loss. Which means the Bengals absolutely have to beat the Cardinals and Rams. But the Bengals, being the Bengals, will find a way to lose one of these games - therefore miss the playoffs.

Final season record: 9-7

Final AFCN rankings:

Ravens (5-1)
Steelers (4-2)
Bengals (3-3)
Browns (0-6)

Problem with TO is not just his declining abilities as a WR, but his reputation as a big-mouth and a locker room cancer. Even as a Bills player, he had tweeted about other players that he thought weren't good enough, even though he was on a bad team (in 2010) and he himself didn't do so well, either. And now NFL is swarmed with so many young, talented receivers that they don't need old veterans like TO who act like prima donnas. He should just retire and make another reality show somewhere.

So long Albert Haynesworth, don't let the door hit you on your way out. :o
