I can't believe the Charlie Batch-led Steelers could beat the Ravens.

Neither could Charlie Batch. He was crying while Ben cradled him in his arms. :woot:

Gotta say a much needed victory by the Steelers now they just have to win out and definitely beat the Bengals to get that wild card spot.

the Broncos won their division.

:hehe:

Sorry Mr. Brees.

Batch should retire tomorrow. His career has reached its high point. This is a good way to call it quits.

Tampa's loss today means Atlanta is officially the NFC south champs! :woot:

A certain sect of San Fran fans have a very odd, almost cult-like devotion to Alex Smith. This article sums up perfectly why he ought not be the Niners' starter:

Alex Smith is Foolish to Blame Concussion for Losing Starting Job

IMO, this article is dumb. Harbaugh wasn't sold on Smith, clearly. But there was nothing to suggest that Smith was going to be pulled from the starting lineup until his concussion. Harbaugh was probably going to ship Smith out of SF during the off-season. Does Kapernick have more upside? Yes, without doubt. But taking a **** on Smith because he vocalized his frustation is STUPID. What does the writer expect, for Smith to throw Kaep a tea party? :whatever:

Kaep is Harbaugh's draft pick and he wants to see his pick succeed. Fine, no problem. But stop kicking Smith while he's down. You can say he did nothing right, but he didn't do anything wrong, either.

I knew that Smith supporters would jump on Kaep as soon as the 49ers lost. You really can't say what may have been the right decision until the postseason?

And that there lies the problem and why Harbaugh has created this QB controversy. Harbaugh needs to stop pussyfooting and just name his definite. It doesn't benefit either Kaepernick or Smith. Kaepernick is the starter, but he'll have that feeling that the minute he has the inevitable bad game, he'll be thrown under the bus. And from Smith's POV, because he actually hasn't done anything wrong to lose his job in the traditional sense, him having to wait for Kaepernick to f*** up so Harbaugh will be compelled to swap him in is pouring salt on the wounds.

The back-and-forth with Harbaugh is maddening, and I have no horse in the race. I'm no 49ers fan, I'm neutral on them. Whoever Harbaugh wants--and clearly that's Kaepernick--go with that. Stop jerking around Smith. If he's not the answer for you, let him go and find another team.

Harbaugh has already said that Kaepernick will be the starter next week.

I gotta admit, even I felt a little bad for Smith today watching Harbaugh pound Kaepernick's shoulder pads and get him fired up before the game. Remember last season when ESPN kept playing that clip of Smith and Harbaugh's pregame routine (which was the exact same thing), saying how Harbaugh's "faith in Smith," has single-handedly revived Smith's career? So much for that....must suck to see him do the same exact pre-game routine with another QB. Must make Smith question a lot of the "faith," that Harbaugh had in him.

Smith thought he had found a coach that actually showed belief in him. What a waste of trust on his part. It's business, stuff like this happens. But it's gotta be tough.

Harbaugh is a prick. sorry, but his handling of this is just all sorts of 'im a dick'.

Let's be honest though, this notion that Smith is this great quarterback who's true potential can be unlocked by a coach who believes in him is such a load of bull. Smith, at his absolute best (which he was under Harbaugh) is a game manager whom the offense has to be planned in spite of.

I don't see him as a dick, I see him as a "chicken ****" for not coming out and just saying "you are the starter, here is why...you aren't here is why..."

I think there are enough HC and GMs who's egos are big enough that they think they can turn around a QB. Which is why I think Vick and Smith are going to have jobs next year as starters.

Yeah, this is why I don't like Harbaugh at all.

Strangely, his brother in Baltimore doesn't seem anywhere near as big of a prick as Jim is.

I don't think anyone is suggesting that Smith is a great QB. And I would dare say that this season, there wasn't a lot of planning around him.

It's more that Harbaugh has mishandled this situation and is taking a major risk that he could have miade in the off-season. Even if he didn't believe in Smith, Harbaugh could just get to the chase. This death by 1000 cuts is hard to take. And honestly, the only reason he's doing the hot potato dance isn't for Smith's benefit but in case Kaepernick stinks it up and he has to go to Smith again. He can't afford to have the guy check out on him just yet. It's pretty two-faced, IMO.

I'd say Vick is the top QB prospect of the off-season. A lot of his mistakes can be blamed on Andy Reid and with the right coaching he can have a few more good seasons. I could see Arizona making a big push for Vick. As for Smith, I think he ranks far behind someone like Geno Smith, Matt Barkley and Tyler Wilson (and arguably even Aaron Murray and Tyler Bray). Then factor in some folks who may also be in the market depending who drafts who....Carson Palmer, Matt Cassel, Ryan Fitzpatrick, etc. Palmer is definitely a higher end target than Smith and Fitzpatrick and Cassel are arguable. So the question becomes, are there really 7 or 8 QB openings? I just don't see how Smith fits in anywhere. Remember, he tried last year and the only offer was Miami.

If I'm a GM and I have the choice between drafting a top tier prospect like Geno Smith, Matt Barkley or Tyler Wilson, I take that bet over a near 30 year old quarterback who has never shown anything close to elite talent. Hell, I definitely take Vick or Palmer over Smith. Even Fitzpatrick and Cassel have shown the ability to do something that Smith cannot....put teams on their shoulders and carry them to victory. I dunno....I just think that there is more talent on the market that is more appealing than Smith.

Like that is gonna do anything...might as well draft a QB, or go after Moore or Cassel. Cassel had a couple good seasons.

Fitzpatrick is a turnover machine. Smith isn't. The Bills have lost A LOT of games because of Fitzpatrick's poor decison making. He would be an upgrade IMO.

The defense is carrying Kaep just as much as it has Smith. He's had 2, 1 and now 0 TDs in his 3 starts. That's not good enough to take the job midseason. I still see Kaep as the guy, just not this season. Smith has done enough to finish this out on his terms.
