I was under the impression that he already did retire. Guess I missed something.

Nope. He's coming back next year (if anyone picks him up). We found our new Favre!

I liked Hines Ward. It doesn't sound like he's going to retire though, it's going to look weird with him having a different jersey on.

They could have given him one more year. I'm sure this season would have been his last one.

Hines play isn't even up to par for a fourth wide receiver. Keeping him around out of loyalty would have been foolish. It would be as foolish as when the Rooney's passed over drafting Dan Marino because an aging Terry Bradshaw wanted to stick around. Paying the veteran minimum for a guy who can't even be a decent number 4 receiver would be foolish.

Someone I looked up to cheering for the Steelers in his young days is now too old.

Now I feel old :csad:

Dog, other than Wallace and Brown, Hines Ward was the next best WR (which makes sense since the man is 35) according to statistics. I can see trying to not pay Hines Ward as much for salary cap reasons, but I am sure that Hines Ward and the organization could have easily negotiated a one year contract. Ward wasn't useless and I doubt even if he had retired this year, the organization would be searching for another WR. That offensive line needs work to protect the pocket.

Releasing him now rather than later is doing him a bit of a favor (assuming he'd be gone no matter what). At least they're giving him time to hook up with another team ... if one exists that wants him.

The league has decided to begin the 2012 season on a Wednesday, instead of Thursday so the game won't be on the same night as president Obama’s speech at the democratic convention.

Lame.

That's football coming back one day earlier. Can't complain about that.

Day earlier, so lame.

I don't see anything wrong with America's #1 sport and NBC's highest rated fall program coming back one day earlier.

Is it lame because it's being moved up a day or because they moved it for a political speech?

Might be against my team, but this Hines Ward play is classic. Thought I'd share

He was gonna look for a new team anyway since his whole team was decimated by Bane.

Shefter is reporting that sources close to Wallace is saying that the Steelers will franchise him.

 Not worth it at all. A receiver who cannot run routes is not worth top five money.

Now Shefter is saying, tender instead of franchise.

It did say franchise originally.

I guess Obama was thinking

"Lost fans made me change my speech day. The NFL bastards sure as hell won't" & gave them no choice.

But why are people complaining about a day earlier NFL game ?

Ravens reportedly going to franchise Rice tomorrow.

Jets looking to bring back Edwards and possibly sign Henne.

Browns not franchising Hillis.

The Jets have no choice but to sign Henne. I can almost bet that was in Tony's contract

Henne is a ****ing joke.

But he is a better backup then Brunnell
