If Saints don't want to pay him, they can always let him walk and become a FA, you know. Unfortunately, they'd rather tag him than do just that.

They still have contract rights to him for another year so they don't have to let him go anywhere near FA. Whoa is you Drew, only getting to make $14.4 million this year with the ability to work out a longer term deal.

Brees should man up some, considering he was so involved in the CBA negotiations last spring/summer. He agreed to give ownership the right to do this to players.

They may have a contract on Brees. But he could suck intentionally if they don't let him go. If they decide not to pay him. Why pay Brees any money if he is going to be benched for sucking intentionally though ? It seems like Brees wants out

Send him to NO, I guess.

I'm just kidding, really. It would never happen anyway. I guess I'm just shocked -- regardless of the intricate details of deal -- that NO would gamble on a guy who is hands-down one of the top 5 QBs in the league, and possibly THE best QB. I understand that that the Saints don't want to go back to being an offense-only team with no defense, but I think they are turning a blind eye to just how valuable a good QB is to a team. If they lose Brees, then the Saints turn into the 2011 Colts.

Agreed so he should play out another year and if he wants more cash go to Dallas were he will get it.

which would be idiotic on his part considering the worse his numbers are, the less teams are going to offer to pay him.

So if the player doesn't get a team to pay his asking price, he'll either lower his damand or find another team that does, right? And if no team would pay, then he'll be out of the NFL, right? Saints won't pay Brees, but that doesn't mean no other team would.

If he makes it to the free agency, then yes - supply and demand will decide his value, but there are various things that alter that process.

Personally, I hate franchise tags.

Agreed, nothing makes a CB better than an awesome pass rush.

This is one of my favorite things about NFL roster science, because no area is it more large than the passing game. There are two very fundamentally different philosophies - the Rex Ryan lock down the WR's with corners and attack with exotic blitzing schemes (which means you have to pay top dollar on the back end, but avoid expensive pass rusher salaries) or the Jim Schwartz style of rotating gap penetrators creating enough of a rush to allow you to drop seven men into coverage.

I bet Sean Payton is destroying the vicodin in the Saints drug locker over this Brees contract. :hehe:

Moss working out with the Saints.

Randy Moss had a great showing today, according to sources at his New Orleans workout.

You're right. What was I thinking. 2,400 TDs minimum, 0 INTs.

Matt Moore is the most interesting quarterback in the world.

When the league moves to an 18-game season, Matt Moore will win 19 regular season games just to stay ahead of the pack.

Seriously, there isn't a surprise to anyone who has been following this news since the beginning, and the owner Irsay made it pretty clear what he intends to do. However, we still don't know which team Peyton will sign to play for this Fall, and maybe not even Peyton knows this himself.

I think Darth hates my posts...I think he put me in ignore.

Somewhere, Rex Ryan is attempting back flips.
