I don't get it. People who claim 3rd party always harp on how bad Democrat and Republican candidates are, but what makes them think that these 3rd party candidates are going to be any more noble than the politicians they despise? 3rd party candidates are politicians also...

Well, it is getting to the point where we might as well give 3rd parties a shot at being President.

Well the simple fact of the matter is Johnson's record in New Mexico. He had a balanced budget, which we sorely need, he got things done, and he vetoed items that weren't needed and were wasteful. He was a Republican governor in a democrat majority and he still got things done. That's why people like him and that's why people are voting for him

Yep. Two-term Republican Governor at that.

But honestly don't you feel like they should vote for the candidate who actually has a shot at winning the election. Either the democrat, or republican. I don't understand the logic in voting for a party you know has 0 shot at winning

How do you expect change to happen, when you keep voting for the same two choices? And this election, both those two choices suck.

No they shouldn't. The problem is everyone says "They have no shot" when in reality if they would just vote for them, they would actually win. People say "It's a wasted vote" but it's not. A wasted vote is voting for someone you consider to be the lesser of two evils. That's a stupid vote. You're not voting for who you think would be best, but for who would be the less horrible of the two choices.

This.

I hate the dominant 2-party bureaucracy. If this really is the land of the "free", we should have the freedom to choose for whomever candidate we feel would do the best job. For me, that man is Gary Johnson. I know "he won't win" but at the end of the day I sleep easy at night knowing that I used my right and privilege to vote. Period. I am not going to "choose the lesser of two evils" when there is one good candidate (in my opinion).

Why isn't there a Libertarian Super Pac out there, raising billions of dollars to get the word out there for good ole Gary? Cuz Libertarians are cheap as hell. :funny:

I hate the PACs as well. It's turned what is supposed to be a legitimate constitutional proceeding into a sideshow. EVERY CANDIDATE should be given a fair shot to be heard, regardless of party. Then people can make up their own damn minds.

People are too stupid to think for themselves. That's why they need 30 second tv spots to tell them what to think. :awesome:

I definitely don't question someone voting for a 3rd party - if that's your conscious, then you should absolutely vote that. And I agree, if everyone who said "it's just a wasted vote" actually voted that way, then I agree, a 3rd party would at least make some noise.

That said, I have no problems casting my vote for Obama, because I don't believe in the basic Libertarian platform.

The best shot any 3rd party has is actually building a party. So much emphasis is put on the presidency but very rarely do we see 3rd party congressman, even on a state level. Why not build up to the higher offices, who people exactly the kind of alternative they represent through being part of the political process at other levels?
