First off, Congrats to the Los Angeles Kings on their second Stanley Cup Championship in the last 3 years.

Free agency starts today, July 1st, at Noon EDT, and with it the dawn of a new season.....

Who's going to massively overpay Paul Stastny?

Is Teemu Selanne really [BLACKOUT]dead[/BLACKOUT] retired?

Can Barry Trotz get Ovechkin to play defense?

Will anyone actually be sad to see the Nassau Coliseum go?

Will the San Jose Sharks be teal enough?

Is this the year a Canadian team finally hoists the Cup?

The answers to these questions and more, coming soon!

Senators trade Spezza to the Stars for Chiasson, Guptil, Paul, and a 2nd rounder.

Christian Ehrhoff to PIT, only for 1 yr @ $4M

Benoit Poullliot and Mark Fayne to EDM.

Paul Stastny to the Blues for 4 years. Where is Hush to gloat? ;)

GLOAT GLOAT GLOAT!! Hahaha. :o

4 years at 7mil a piece. He is cheaper than he could have been, I think he is a good fit here plus the history with his family and being a hometown boy just is a cherry on top.

Miller to Vancouver? They must be desperate with their goaltending situation. Miller's getting past his prime. I think trading Schneider last year was a fatal move.

Jonas Hiller to the Flames.... I like it...

I really like that move by the Flames to, maybe they get relevant finally.

I'm okay with the deal; it's a sign that Benning isn't going to throw away the rest of the core the team he has now. The key is how quickly Miller can mesh with the existing defensemen, but I am optimistic he can.

I'd like to see the Canucks get a bona fide second-line centre (either an offensive or two way guy) and a good character forward. (Actually, I would like to see the Canucks get a legit 30-minute defenceman, but I've been banging that drum for 4 years now, so I've accepted that's not part of their team vision).

Schneider was a good deal at the time it was made. If Bo Horvat ends up sucking, it means bad scouting, but not a bad trade.

I'm not really a big hockey fan, so I don't really post here, but this story about Claude Giroux had me laughing my ass off.

It's been reported that he became drunk and started pinching a cop's buttocks.

Get out Maooz, get the **** out.

Hush, didn't you pinch a cop's buttocks awhile back?

Claude Giroux is now my favorite player.

And here I thought the days of clutch and grab hockey were over.

I think Spezza is pretty much done at this point but who knows? Maybe Lindy Ruff can squeeze something out of him.

Christ... he's only 31... he can still generate 70+ points per season...

I agree... 2.9 mil per season is too much for a 5-6 D-man... :o

Numbers alone don't justify those contracts, but you can make an argument for them based on the intangibles they bring, especially during the playoffs.

I can think of 29 other teams that would pay that money to have either/both of those guys on their team...
