2015 Major League Baseball Thread: Fire Sale! - Part 2

Ayy, David Price. Lots of money, but let's go!

That contract is going to be very painful for them towards the end.

There's an opt out clause after year three. Found out it's a player option, though.

And the Blue Jays never even made him an offer?

Jays probably have one of the richest ownership groups in the league (Rogers TV). Yet they operate like a mid-market team.

It's a shame because that team wasnt that far off, and they still probably have a window of another year or two to win.

Whoa Greinke to the D-Backs for a 6yr deal. Arizona just became a player today. I thought San Fran was a near lock to get him.

Lackey also signed with the Cubs for 2yrs. That's a very good pick up for them.

I like Barry Bonds as a hitting coach in Miami.

Now, if he could just beat the **** out of/hospitalize Loria and necessitate new ownership, we could get things moving.

I see the Pete Rose conversation hasn't been brought up, so I'll say something. I genuinely feel bad for the guy, but he could have made this so much more easier on himself back in 1989 if he told the truth. I feel bad for him because guys like Bonds, McGwire and people who used PED's are on the ballot, but at the same time I don't feel bad because he lied several times.

This is just one of those issues where you're torn between things. I believe he could be in the HOF at some point, but his odds aren't looking good.

Pete's problem is that he's continued to be a creep and play the victim. Not to mention showing up at casinos every other weekend doesnt really scream "I'm sorry for gambling on baseball."

If he had kept his nose clean, and not started doing appearances right outside the HOF in Cooperstown, just to piss off Selig, then maybe Manfred might've had a bit more sympathy for him.

Personally I think he should be in, but he's just made it so hard on himself by continuing to be an unlikeable low life the past 20 years.

Congrats to Ken Griffey Jr, although 3 asshats didn't vote for him.

And for Mike Piazza going in as a Met.

Had he been healthy for his entire career, would he have broken Henry Aaron's All Time Home Runs Record?

I definitely think so.

Doing some hypothetical math, in 22 years, he hit 630 HRs. But he had about 4 1/2 seasons where he missed a lot of games. I think with better health, he would have hit better, so had he averaged 40 HR's, that gives him about 100 more HRs, so he would have been at 730. He also had a short span of decent playing time before he left Cincinnati so I think you could muster up another 30 HRs in that time with better health.

And the all time Home Runs record would have not been tainted had he been healthy.

Griffey definitely would've seen a drop-off in production had he stayed in Seattle and played more seasons at SafeCo. He did benefit greatly from the dimensions at the KingDome. Moving to Cinnci was definitely the right move, his body just wasnt compliant.

Pretty cool that he was an almost unanimous selection although it makes me feel old as hell ( I remember going nuts over his rookie card as a kid). Really want to know who the 3 asshats were who didnt vote for him and their reasoning.

Yeah, I remember hearing Safeco was not a hitter's ballpark and I think that's what influenced A-Rod and Griffey to leave around the same time. I also wonder if his body and legs were just more used to the turf in the Kingdome. I believe Cincinnati had already been in their outdoor stadium at this point.

I didn't think he deserves the highest percentage let alone the only unanimous decision. Had he not gotten hurt, maybe. But he did.

Piazza going in as a Met

as it should be

I never get why baseball makes a distinction about what "team" a player goes into the Hall of Fame on? It's seems arbitrary and unnecessary, and you inevitably piss off one other fanbase. It's the individual player going into the Hall for the accumulation of his individual accomplishments over his entire career.

Even if he goes in as a Met, it's not like his 7 seasons in LA, (or time spent with other teams) didn't count towards his election. (Piazza's OPS was 50 points higher as a Dodger BTW)

Just to troll everyone, Piazza should've asked to go in as a Marlin.

Yeah, Murphy signed around Christmas, Drew was like last week?

San Diego is going to end up being a one team town professionally.
