To me, the book is simply a tick box tool of functionality, SS gave it all some heart I thought. His best 'family' film for years.

I think they meant it was playing on video game and pop culture nostalgia, not necessarily borrowing the same story idea. I was describing the storyline of Pixels as I remember to confirm it was the Adam Sandler movie Loca was thinking of.
