2021 Tokyo Olympics

Pity about the mix tennis match. They guy who criticized Simone Biles lost his attempt at the Golden Slam, threw an amazing hissy fit, tossing away and breaking a few rackets, and then abandoned his female teammate for a mixed match for a bronze medal.

 

The mixed swimming medley relay was one of the most interesting events this year and they just had whoever was best at that stroke going regardless of gender.

 

I did not know this, very interesting.

 

Jasmine Camacho-Quinn wins first Track and Field Gold medal for Puerto Rico. She is the sister of Chicago Bears LB Robert Quinn.

 

Her name almost sounds like Gypsy in the Flash.

 

That 400m hurdles final was crazy. World record broken by 3/4 of a second by Karsten Warholm (breaking his own world record) and second place wasn’t far behind and also well within the world record. Even third was only 2 hundredths outside the record and that guy was miles back.

 

Elaine Thompson-Herah wins the 200m to make it a double double.

 

USA Basketball needs some consistency in regards to constructing their 3x3 teams. The USA Men's 3x3 team didn't make it to Tokyo. That team was made up of Americans who play in Europe. Meanwhile, the Women's 3x3 team was made up of 4 WNBA players. But the regular men's team are all NBA players and the regular Women's Team is all WNBA players.

 

Open water swimming looks annoying. They're swimming on top of each other and bashing into each other. I would hate to swim in those conditions. Some could get yellow cards as the referees keep blowing their whistles.

 

13 year old gets a bronze in skateboarding. Very impressive!

What has happened on day 12 in Tokyo?

 

Sky Brown is Great Britain's youngest ever medallist at 13.

But she nearly didn't get the medal as she fell in her first two runs and all the pressure was her in her third and final run to pull out something spectacular. By then the other two Japanese skaters had already secured gold and silver, with the silver medallist being only 12 years old.



I saw in the qualifying rounds a few hours earlier that there was a woman in her mid thirties also skating. She only managed really low scores of about 9 or 7 without even falling compared to others who scored in the 40s or 50s, some of whom even fell during their runs. The woman in her 30s looked completely amateurish compared to some of the others, like the equivalent of someone swimming a slow head-above-the-water breaststroke at the pool next to an Olympic swimmer in the next lane.

 

I don’t know how people can get so good at something at such a young age. I was pretty useless at everything at that age.

 

Not all 12 and 13 year olds are like that though. It depends on perseverance and how much others encourage you. Some teens or pre-teens just surf the internet or play video games all day long and would never get involved in sports or hobbies. If you encouraged them to be more active, they'd act as if you're inflicting abuse on them.

 

Yeah, just very impressive when they can beat adults at such an early stage. I know some sports are more suited to younger people but having that kind of mental strength to fight back from adversity on the biggest stage is something even many adult athletes will never develop after a lifetime of dedication.

Johnson-Thompson pulls out of Olympics

Really sad when injuries ruin all the hopes and hard work of these dedicated athletes, especially in the Olympics where you only get so many chances.

Aside from Katerina Johnson-Thompson, 2 of our other track hopes also pulled up injured (Dina Asher-Smith and Adam Gemili).
