Interest in Transformers is about to be, well, transformed into full-fledged mania.

A new DVD, The Transformers: The Movie 20th Anniversary Special Edition (Sony, due Nov.7), not only celebrates the original 1986 animated film based on the Hasbro toy line, but also gives a sneak look at the Michael Bay-directed Transformers film due next summer (trailer at transformersmovie.com). Executive producer Steven Spielberg also will appear on the DVD.

"They are doing something huge, and certainly we are here to help," says Jim Wilson of Sony BMG Home Entertainment.

The DVD will have remastered full-screen and widescreen editions of the film, which includes Orson Welles' final performance. Extras include commentary, deleted footage and interviews. And there's a viewing mode in which Transformer pop culture references pop up throughout. Plus: Hasbro has an action figure line due in November.

Will it actually show anything? I doubt it. Will I buy it? Of course!

Ah, man i'm definately buying it! The dvd that i have has very few extras (only an interview with Vice Dicola)...it's about time, imo.

And no i doubt they show anything from the upcoming movie, maybe some concept art, if we're lucky,

I might take a look at that as well. Maybe there will be another Trailer out by then. if so then that could be on it.

I'm buying that DVD for the simple fact it's going to blow that last "special edition dvd" away. And if we're lucky we can get the movie FINALLY in a widescreen aspect ratio.

It better have the "s--t" and "d--n it" lines!!!

Man...I hear you on the widescreen. I am looking forward to watching it on my 100" screen and Bose surround sound.

I am assuming you are talking about a projector...and Bose sucks. Bose is really great if all you care about are the highs and lows. Their midrange is ****, and their directional sound fields are warbled at best.

why wouldnt it the version out now does

I live hear in the States now, but when the movie came out i lived in England. I think that that version of the movie was much better. At the beginning instead of having the 'starring credits' during the Lion theme song, we got a Star Wars like scroll going up the screen, where the narrator reads off what he read in the US version.."It is the year 2005........". Then at the end when Unicron head is orbiting Cybetron the narrator comes on again and said "The battle is over, but the galatic battles of the Transformer will continue...and Optimus Prime will return( something along those lines)"...boom then the ending music starts.

All you guys that like in the UK know what i'm talking about. I think the US version should be that way now too, plus give us the UK cover art as the U.S one sucked!

Why would a transformer say "s**t"?

that makes no sense.

How can they have a widescreen version if the original was 4:3?

Spike says "oh ****!", not a Transformer.

They will be cropping it...which sucks. The only time a movie should be available in widescreen, is when it was shot in widescreen.

I only have the VHS, this will be a perfect excuse to finally upgrade. :)

Same here. I just hope that the "sneak peek" is not that lame teaser trailer. That would totally suck.

Or just the same old crap we've seen along with a big montage of people saying things about the production with music in the background and lots of flashy wipes to diffrent scenes.

Great! Can't wait to hear your news.

Well theres good news I hope they have it and then I will watch it so ha but there is bad news NCSA doesn't own all the prints of film they sort of just use it from this one guy and that guy took most of his films back home with him.

If it exists...it exists as a matted frame. The animation was created at 4:3 and as such any widescreen print would have to be cropped.
