Why would Wayne Palmer becoming President be a Mistake? It would actually work well. By honoring his Brother he becomes president. Then have Mike Novick as his chief of staff because Palmer trusted him.
Simple.
The Only Drawback to that is it takes time to become president. the next season would have to be at LEAST two years later and I want to see how jack escapes.
Wayne being president is a bad idea. The ultimate Green Lantern, Hal Gardner should be president. Sure Wayne worked with his brother, but he doesn't have any other experience to qualify him as president.

Here is a spoiler from 24 Insider which is the number one source for spoilers.
Remember Fox will be doing the 4 hour premiere non-stop ride again for 24's sixth season.
So I had a peek at a small portion of the first eps. script. Here's what I could glean (sp?) before having to run for my life. It aint easy being a spy you know.
First eps is 6am to 7am. Buchanan is negotiating with 'Fayed' to get info on 'Assad'. Fayed trades info for custody of Jack. When he gets Jack he proceeds to torture him (natch) for what Jack had done to his brother. Fayed 'admires the Chinese handiwork', the many scars on Jack's torso, and his burned and scarred hands. Meanwhile, Morris is consoling Chloe, at work, because Buchanan gave the baddies Jack. Turns out 'Assad' is actually a good guy and 'Fayed' made it look like he was a baddie so CTU would kill him. He tells this to Jack before he kills him, as all supervillians do, then steps out to take a call. Big mistake. Jack attacks the lone guard by (gross alert....)biting his throat open. argh.
That's all I got. Seriously, don't email me about who's the president or what year it is or how Jack escaped from the Chinese. No clue.
Yet.
As 24's "Day 6" approaches, the cast continues to assemble, with Regina King (Ray) and DB Woodside (24's "Wayne Palmer") joining last season's most Emmy-nominated series as series regulars in season six. The clock will reset for 24 in January, Mondays (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.
After last season's shocking assassination of beloved President Palmer (Dennis Haysbert), the Palmer Family now comes together with the addition of King as Palmer's sister "Angela," a powerful advocacy lawyer, and the return of Palmer's strong-minded brother "Wayne" (Woodside) as the recently elected President.
King is best known for her roles in Jerry Maguire and the Academy Award-winning Ray, while Woodside has earned recognition for his recurring role on 24.
Okay, so Jack is probably missing a kidney and somehow even more ****ed up. Biting a neck? Well we're only a season away from Jack resorting to rape.
Don't like the sound of Wayne Palmer as President. It does put a friend of Jack back in the White House. And this new Palmer sister will hopefully change things up. Any takers that Mike Novick and Agent Pierce are working for Wayne? Democratic party must have swooped up Wayne and presented him to America. Who knows what was leaked about President Logan; could hurt American politics, especially the GOP. Anyway, spoilers are finally leaking out that's good to know. Just a few more and then I'll stop and probably look again in 2007.
How the two new regulars will play into the story of Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) in the coming season remains to be seen. FOX isn't dropping any details about the season-six plot, although Sutherland has said it will focus at least in part on Jack trying to save his own skin.
Just an stupid thought, with all the scars on his chest Jack might've been subjected to Itchy and Scratchy's Unecessary Surgery Land.
Remember there is the 24:The Motion Picture; besides Operation Nightfall they could do Jack's escape from wherever he was held and tortured. While the escape would make for a great television, I don't know if you could fill in 24 quality episodes. They've been doing the show for five seasons they know what's hard and impossible to do for a season, so perhaps it just came down to logistics. Who knows what the new season will bring. Its been atleast 2 years since Jack has been kidnapped so should make for some interesting character development.
