The "official trailer" thread here seems to be all about the first trailer. So, I thought I'd pop this in here. Sorry if this belongs somewhere else.

I had a chance to watch the new trailer, which has some unfinished effects (but includes that PS2 looking Iron Man shooting the tank bit from the Super Bowl commercial (could it be that it's supposed to look like this? The quote from the title of this article comes from a moment where Pepper Potts walks in on Tony Stark in a full body mocap suit as he is doing some VR fight training), and I have to say that this one kicks ass. The music is still a little meatheaded - it opens with ACDC's Back in Black and closes with Audioslave's Cochise - but the tone of the thing is perfect. The structure is similar to previous trailers:

We open with Tony in Afghanistan, which is a nice opportunity to show off some Downey humor. The attack happens, he gets captured, he builds the prototype, he escapes. Stark returns to America, where he is met by Pepper Potts ("Red eyes? Tears for your long lost boss?" "Tears of joy. I hate job hunting.") and then we see Stark's supermodern house, which talks to him.

The next sequences have the creation of the suit, with voice over by Stark explaining that he had a change of heart in captivity and wants to help the people he used to hurt. Obadiah Stane goes to Afghanistan to get the grey Iron Man suit schematics. Tony learns to fly in the Iron Man armor (poorly). We get some inside the helmet shots of Stark's face as he's flying and then crashing. Rhodey pops up with the schematics for the new armor, which is all gold, and Stark tells him to throw in some race car red. And then there's a bunch of action - Iron Man and jets, Iron Monger grabbing a passing motorcycle out from under a guy and nailing Iron Man with it, a nuclear looking punch to the ground - and then Tony Stark addressing what is likely his board of directors: 'There's been some speculation I've been running around as a super hero. Let's face it - I'm just not the hero type. Clearly.'

It's a terrific trailer, even with some crudely rendered bits that will surely get cleaned up before it hits theaters. If you're like me and was modestly underwhelmed by that Super Bowl spot, this trailer is going to return Iron Man to the top of your expectation list for sure.

That sounds great. I love RDJ's lines. He can totally make them work.

sweet i am definetely looking forward to it!!
when do u think it will hit the web?

Finally, some more Monger action!

I don't like how the trailers show this to just be another superhero origin movie, which is getting a bit tired, but there are many things about this movie which shows that Favreau has one that extra mile, such as the whole secret identity thing being addressed, so far no superhero movie has really portrayed that with any depth.

And if the tank scene is a VR simulation, then great. I look forward to this trailer.

Well that explains the tank scene.... what a relief... IF its true...

I liked the tank scene and if true and is a VR training scene, I'm cool with that as well.
Watching that scene after Iron Man shots the missle at the tank and turns and walks towards the camera you almost expect the scene to turn to a holo-deck kind of room.

Anyone still doubting this movie will make great box office ? That it indeed is the top 5 must see movies this year ? Marvel has hit a home run me thinks. Marvel has knocked one out of the park. They seem to have learned from Fox's screwing around with superhero movies. No more screwing around. Do it and do it right the 1st time.

I agree with you, I feel it will be in the top five films of '08, I just saw the Indy 4 trailer and that blew me away as well, May looks awesome for films.
Iron Man is my number #1 movie since i'm a huge Iron man fan and EVERYTHING i've seen blow's me away, I'm so happy with every aspect of the film, May 2nd can't get here fast enough.

I'm not letting my enthuasim run away with me. I don't know what it will end up making. I'm guessing 400 WW. That would be outstanding for a May release, and would signal that Marvel is a player in the comic to movie industry. I agree. Indy 4 is going to do well at the boxoffice. For 2008 I see not necessarly in this order, Indy 4, Chronicels, HP, TDK, IRONMAN, The Incredable Hulk. There's no Spider-Man, no Pirates, just a lot of good movies this year. IRONMAN is in a perfect spot.

Awesome! This film is tied with TDK for me, I'm not sure which one I want to see more than the other.

Great to hear their actually going to show Iron Monger in action a bit if that trailer description is true.

I'm hoping to hell that that tank scene is in fact a training simulation, the rest of the pics using the actual suit/effects look so bad ass.

Awesome, can't wait to see that!

Nice! I sort of had a feeling the tank shot was going to be something vr orientated, or a simulation of some sort.

That would make the most sense, since it would totatly be out of charactor with the rest we have seen, and Fav's saying that not much if any blue screen was used, he wanted things to appear as natural as possible, and that tank scene was all CG, and did not fit. That scene with the tank was more than likley a simulator to give Tony some VR target practice to get used to the suit.

I think Narnia will get raped this year... its a sandwich film... Indy will put it well into second place in less than a week... I think Indy will probably be a top 3 for about 4-5 weeks... Narnia probably slips to 4 if not five the third week... for the domestic totals I think it will be...

1) Indy 4
2) TDK
3) HP
4) Narnia
5) IM

WW total is anyone's guess... we can only hope IM does well overseas... but 200 million domestic is not going to suprise anymore like I said it would before... wouldn't be shocked if it hit 220... right now I am thinking 198ish but rising...

that made me laugh
