As of today, 300: Rise Of An Empire has crossed 100 million dollars at the domestic box office and 200 million dollars at the international box office for a total of more than 300 (natch!) million dollars at the worldwide box office.

The film is budgeted at 110 million dollars and would end up making more than 3 times its budget. AND it is R Rated. AND it starred complete unknowns save Eva Green who yet did not receive first billing and was not seen as a "name" to open movies by herself.

Which basically means this is an unequivocal success. And the film-makers have every incentive to make a third movie and complete the trilogy (a wish they have expressed numerous times).

So expect a sequel to be announced folks. The third part of the trilogy will very likely be happening.

Saw the film:

Eva Green was the best thing about the film but wow, I found myself being bored by it all. It felt unremarkable, though some shots were beautifully made. The male lead is just so generic that he doesn't hold up to the likes of Gerald Butler. I can't believe that I just said that, haha. But seriously, Butler was great in the first film.

My other complaint is the digital cinematography. The DOP also worked on The Great Gatsby which looked wonderful, but here, it looks so video-y in certain shots. It seems like he was still trying to get a hang of the cameras, and I hope he has perfected the Alexa for "Warcraft".

It's worth a watch, but it wasn't a story that had to be told. People won't remember this one while the original one, despite it's faults, will live on.
