Universal’s Spy Thriller ‘355’ Gets 2021 Release Date

Universal has set a January 15, 2021 release date for 355, the ensemble spy thriller that came together during last year’s Cannes Film Festival. The pic directed and co-written by Simon Kinberg stars Jessica Chastain, Lupita Nyong’o, Penélope Cruz, Diane Kruger and Fan Bingbing.

This looks...competent, and seeing as I know it’s directed by Simon Kinberg that might come across as a bit of a backhanded compliment.

I notice that they didn’t bother to use Kinberg in the marketing, which makes sense considering how his previous film(which was also his directorial debut) was both a critical and commercial failure. Movie doesn’t look like something I’ll ever go bother to watch in theaters though. I think there’s a cheapness to the production that makes it feel like it should’ve been sent straight to streaming or VOD.

Trust me, I know. Even though they didn't show his name in the trailer. I can't forget the guy that single handedly ruined the X-Men movies.

Anyway, this is a couch potato movie for me. I'm surprised that itsnot getting delayed like most upcoming movies.

It looks decent. Like I said before, I like spy movies, the female cast is really good (although I would have preferred Cotillard instead of Kruger) and to be fair Kinberg is only directing this time.

On the other hand the actual writer is even worse than him, it's a January release and it's coming out in covid era so it could mean they probably don't have much faith in it.

So, long story short, I'm interested in this but I'm not expecting much as of right now.

It looks okay. What a terrible song to use for this trailer. A bad choice of a song can get in the way of a better trailer.

This looks fun. But...I feel like something’s off with the movie. Something about this tells me that movie itself isnt going to end up being good but it might be a good entertaining 2 hour diversion...if that makes sense.

Idk, I just see a lot of cliches and things we’ve seen over and over in other Spy action thrillers. And so many lines of dialogue we’ve heard before. I think that the literal selling point of the movie is seeing these stars teaming up. I’m betting the critics are gonna crucify this though.
