So will the original movies still be released in 3D with this new deal?

Good question... I think I read that Fox still owns episode 4, so I'm not too sure about that one. The rest, though... I can see them still being released in anticipation for Episode 7. They also stand a larger chance of making more money than they did before, since people will know that new movies are coming out soon.

Fox still owns the distribution rights for Episodes 1-6.

The sale of Lucasfilm to Disney has absolutely no effect whatsoever on the planned 3-D releases of the existing films in the Saga, and here's why: FOX retains distribution rights to all of said films for the foreseeable future. The distribution rights to Episodes V, VI, I, II, and III will revert to the control of Disney and Lucasfilm in 2020, but, unless some type of deal is worked out, FOX will retain distribution rights to Episode IV in perpetuity, which means that said rights will never expire.

I'm betting Disney will just ultimately pay Fox a butt ton of money to get IV back.

So this will likely happen...

2012 - Episode I
2013 - Episode II, Episode III
2014 - Episode IV, Episode V
2015 - Episode VI, Episode VII
