With a 3 year cliff hanger, a year or so of viral marketing, the presence of possibly the most recognized villain in American culture, the death of the great actor who plays said villain, and just a general atmosphere of "holy crap" it is safe to assume that hype for TDK is at legendary levels rivaling things like the Lord of the Rings films or The Phantom Menace(before people realized the god aweful truth). My question to all my fellow Batman fans is it even remotley possible for you to be more "amped" for the next Batman film as you are for TDK?

i hope they top whatever they've done in tdk, even though tdk will be AWESOME!!!!

Nolan's 3rd bat flick is probably the movie with more potential that I've heard of

They are going to have to bring in the big name/character to get people psyched as much as they are for TDK... Two Face won't be enough to carry the film. I think they'll roll the dice with Selina again... stick to the classics. How the heck do ya top Michelle Pheiffer though? Unless they bring in that perfect complementary character they can't match the hype... but if Ledger can rival what Nickolas did... surely some other young actress should be given a shot to stack up to Michelle as Catwoman. Any other villain just won't do it for me.

I like Keri Russell or Eliza Dushku for the role

Exact same thing has been said about Ledger, yet he seems to have done it. Plenty of good actresses are out there, season pros who would do the Cat character justice, Michelle is the benchmark, but if the Jack's Joker can be topped, so can her Catwoman.

Two face is a more interesting and bigger villain than Catwoman no doubt.

As for the original post- we'll get the 3 year cliffhanger again plus a year's worth of internet hype for the 3rd film.

I'd just like to see the Bat suit looking more like it does in the comics in Batman3, that and for the Batcave to be fully finished / kitted out.

Friend, read a comic book, and you will surely find that catwoman is an incredible interesting character

i hope that they dont screw it up with robin or batgirl **** (no offense to batgirl and robin fans) but they ruined the series before if you asked me until begins came along...

Depends if they include Grayson, Catwoman, Riddler, Joker, Harley or Penguin. I see each one as real possibilities. They'd probably pick two from that list

Since it seems
that Gotham will be in a bad state by the end of The Dark Knight,
maybe play up the devastation and chaos left in the Joker's wake for the viral campaign, if they decide to do another one. Like the mob or freak element getting out of hand kind of stuff.

Joker casts a pretty big shadow for everyone else to be living in. I think its safe to assume that the reason TDK is so big is Joker alone. The movie could be about him alone and the hype would still be huge.

The one thing I hope Nolan and co. are careful of, is pairing villains off with each other. That was part of what ruined BF and B&R for me.

It's also what made Returns so cool. Batman is facing two villains acting independently of each other. So instead of going to The Riddler's lair and stopping both villains, he takes care of one and still has to deal with the other. Think the first chapters of Knightfall, leading up to the final fight with Bane. Just threat after threat after threat.

Now what I don't mind, is having one villain leading all the others. In this case, Two-Face leading the other freaks. Multiple villains "teaming up" to topple their common foe is different than two working together.

All in all, I think the 3rd could easily topple the second, provided they give the fans what we want, without turning it into Spider-Man 3.

To tell you the truth, I wouldn't even mind if the 3rd ended with a cliffhanger or hint of what's to come, and they never made another film.

yeah, as long as it leaves the door slightly open for another film but not wide open

Agreed. I hate walking out of a theater and saying, "Well now they HAVE to do another movie." for further reference see Spider-Man 2.

Exceptions apply of course. Iron Man. If the "sequel set-up" is after or during cedits I usually don't count it. Transformers counts, because most people are still in the theater.

But that's what makes certain films great. They're saying, "We could do a sequel, and tomorrow you're going to go to SHH! and read that we're signed on for two more movies, but the plotline isn't forcing us."

really? with the whole deal about Heath's death, a lot of people know about the movie and are going to see it

Look at it this way, if the Dark Knight is amazing, people are going to be looking forward to the 3rd film like crazy, thinking what on earth can Nolan do next?!

This is exactly what I have thought all along as well. Even though it may possibly be the last film of the series with Nolan and Co...there is no clear cut resolution in Gotham. It should hint at the rise of power of other villains and the possibilities of old ones creeping around(Joker) remind us that Batman's quest continues even if the movies do not.

And as unpopular as it may be, leave the door open for someone else to step in and take over for Nolan and co if they decide not to come back. There tons of stories left to be told. Batman and the big screen may never be finished. :cwink:

Nah, Catwoman's already been done very well. But they could do the riddler REALLY well. David Tennant = GREAT Riddler

We all know The Dark Knight was the most hyped movie of the decade and made truck loads of money but can Batman 3 do the same? Will there be as much crazy hype for Batman 3 (if there is one) as there was TDK and will it make as much money? Personally I dont think it will be as hyped or make as much money as TDK. What do you guys think?

I think considering the success of TDK it's obviously going to be super hyped up

I think it has a shot at being more acclaimed by critics and fans.

But beating it in the box-office?

Not really. Too much variables that won't repeat again, from Ledger's death to lack of competition.

If the next one is really good, it has a shot at beating TDK in box office, especially if WB keeps up the momentum.

It wasn't variables that caused TDK to make so much, do you really think that Ledger, a guy who was well known but not super well known dying months before the movie came out and lack of competition (not for the whole time it was in theaters mind you) are what made TDK? Maybe a little, but it was an amazing film that appeals to a lot of people.

The only way it won't is if the cast gets split up.

I don't say that Ledger's death was essential to the big numbers... no, the essence was the quality of the movie, and the word of mouth promotion. But let's not fool ourselves here, Ledger's much publicized and lamented death was a factor, and it brought some extra viewers to the theaters. People that maybe wouldn't watch the film because it's not their kind of movie, and yet they saw it.

And yes, it lacked real competition. Iron-Man? The Mummy III? Now that we're entering awards movies, TDK still has a shot at grabbing a best picture nom because of the overall disappointing quality of this year's movies.

Am I in some way lessening TDK's many virtues? Nope. But let's not alow ourselves to be swallowed by our love of the film: it cashed the big bucks first for its quality, and second for a series of external circumstances that happened at once and won't be likely repeated.

because the movie has made a billion bucks does that mean it can have a larger budget?

Batman 3 couldn't make more than The Dark Knight for several reasons. Like...

-Heath Ledgers Death
-Lack of Real Competition
-The Joker
-Massive Online Marketing
