I was wondering where the right place would be to make this thread, I figured it would be here since in order to watch television, you need to have one.

We all knew there would come a time in which 1080p full hd would be succeeded. That is why, 4K is not a dad like 3D was although a lot of 4Ktvs also have built in 3D.

I know somewhere down the line I'm gonna wanna get one. This one. Http://ebay.com/itm/281431065962?nav=SEARCH

Sony makes the best TVs. But about y'all? Are you gonna jump in or wait it out or just stuck with hd? I'm with mkbhd. Once you see 4k, everything else looks fuzzy. I remember over the summer, going to best but and looking at that 4k sony tv and it was showing the World Cup. Not only did the tv just look so cool with the speakers on the side, but it looked like you were AT the game.

From what I've read about 4k, 5k, bendy Tvs and the rest it's just not a big enough difference between them and until we get everything else upgraded to go along with it, it's just a waste of money.

If you get a 4k tv and keep it for 4-5 years though things should have evolved enough for you to notice a difference between them.

It's 5am so I may be a bit fuzzy on the details though. :p

I won't be upgrading until it's the norm (and thus cheaper). Not to mention that i like my tv shows looking like tv shows and not like a bad hand held camera real time recording.

I have a 1080i 40" Smart tv and I'm cool with that. No real interest in upgrading even if I could afford it.

I haven't even upgraded from my 720p TV yet, lol. It's 54" and I'm perfectly happy with it.

there's not a big enough difference because they're not enough 4K stuff out there. in the coming years they may be on the horizon though.

4k is overhyped and bendy televisions are going to be hard to watch at anything but a straight angle. Even when there is 4k content there likely won't be a major, noticable difference to a normal HDTV without a much larger screen and a much longer distance than average.

Is it safe to assume that 10 years ago, HD was overhyped?

No because it was a clear improvement going from standard to high definition was like going from VHS to DVD where the impact was easily visible. The same cannot be said of the impact of DVD to Blu-Ray where the improvement is there but it is not leaps and bounds better, nor justifable right away. Give it ten years when there is content filmed natively in that level of quality and it might be worth it then.

But dvd to bluray WAS the jump from standard to HD.... Lol

There isn't enough access to 4k content at the moment to justify getting a 4k just yet. Not to mention you really need >60" screen to truly see the difference between 4k and hd.

I meant that when you looked at a movie in VHS then saw it on DVD there was an improvement. I misphrased it after I edited it but left that part in.

my friend has a 4k 50 inch tv I couldn't really tell the difference. There was an 80'' 4k tv at Best Buy and I could really tell the difference with that though.

maybe what you were watching wasn't upscaled

2016. I think this is the year that 4K will start to become mainstream.

They just announced a new round of specifications right after people bought their new televisions for Christmas.

So once more a new "standard" has been released and those brand new television sets are obsolete (some of them at least).

I just bought a new 55 inch tv on Cyber Monday. It's a regular 1080p hdtv. It's not 4K or curved. I saw 4K at the stores and honestly couldn't tell much if a difference. I mean there was some difference but not enough to justify the price increase between 1080p and 4k.
