Now I know we all hate 4Kids for their inability to properly handle their licenses, but do not hate on Viz Media. Their work on Naruto and Bleach are far better then you give them credit for. Heck, at least Viz gives Naruto and Bleach uncut bilingual releases.

Compared to other animes I thought they did a great job with Bleach. The voices are decent, and they keep most jokes in where they would have been cut or completely changed word for word before.

Naruto I agree on not being so great tho. A step up from DBZ when it first came out here tho.

Naruto english VO I like ... Kakashi, Orichimaru (the best of the series) & Sasuke ... sometimes

As a semi-fan of both series', I support their English adaptations completely. Naruto is most probably the best sort of dub, one that does small enough violence edits but do not deny the violence happened. How many Shônen Animé do you see with a TV-PG-DSV for a TV edit dub?? Naruto stays true to the original taste of the series and makes it suitable enough for TV so that new fans can come into the fandom.

In fact, just recently the second volume of the Uncut Naruto boxsets came out. Go pick it up.


By the way, if you watched the series more often, you'd know that 'Believe it' isn't used as often. In fact, there was a great depression of sorts, probably five or ten episodes without the catchphrase used. Heck, Naruto says 'Dattebayo' in the Japanese version more often then Maile Flannagan's (she's got an Emmy or two!) Naruto says 'Believe it'.

People need to stop hatin'. Espicially when the dub is so well praised.

We're still talking about the voice work, right ? Because that's my only problem with the 2 series. Everything else is great. The catchphrases ... meh. No big deal to me. It's the voices. They just don't sound right to me. Either way I still think both would've been better off with ADV or any of the above. ADV directors have their voice actors watch the japanese format first to get the feel of the character(s) that they're about to voice.

Well, Viz is owned by Shueisha, Viz also has the Manga, ADV is not likely to have gotten them. The voice work for Naruto is handled quite carefully. Heck TOEI perfers the English actors. Also, they already do listen to each line before rerecording it into English, at least according to Miss Flannagan (Naruto).

She imbodies Naruto for the character he is, annoying, but pretty heart warming at times. There's nothing wrong with her portrayal.
