People keep talking about Tobey not coming back. Why, exactly, wouldn't he come back?

Seems to me if his contract is up at 3 he'd be chomping at the bit to renegotiate for the next 3, considering the last one he did had the largest budget ever. You don't think he'd want a bigger piece of that pie for himself? Or do you all think he's gonna walk away from all that for another Seabiscuit.

I mean if this thing can cost more than any movie ever and still make a heap of money you don't think they are gonna chuck as much money at it as it takes to make it happen again? It's not like the excess of riches is hurting the franchise.

As to "The 4th", take a look at the stickies here on this very site. Lets see, one more big announcement to make, and Oh, look, one of the actors still has a TBA next to what role they will be playing. I think that should be a major clue if not a dead give away. Not exactly "comic-con goes crazy" type news, so they will most likely buffer it with some images of Topher in black.

as to "how many more movies?" Traditionaly the middle part of a trilogy is the darkest. Did SM2 seem all that dark to anyone? I mean IF they were gonna stick to the tried and true trilogy method, don't you think they'd try and end on an up-note instead of on the darkest note so far?

Eventually money becomes less a factor... look at the projects Clooney did after Batman and Robin... he left the big glamour roles to direct and produce more films... same thing with Mel Gibson... eventually actors want to move on and have deeper roles... I am thrilled they kept em all together for three films without a sweat... does anyone realize how difficult that is??? It's time for a change though... hopefully they'll cast a younger guy and a younger MJ and keep the franchise fresh... besides... what story is left from THIS trilogy other than Lizard anyways??? I think they should bring back Baker and Simmons and recast everyone else for SM4...

There are too many dumb people on this board. So I'm going to tell it like it is:

6 films is still up in the air, as is Raimi being the director
Arad said Comic Con would have a surprise revealing of a 4th villAIN
Tobey and Dunst contracts end at 3, but who says they can't re-negotiate?
Electro will not be in this film, he was in an early draft which was found somewhere online (supposively)
There will be (a) death(s) in this movie
The only plausible 4th villains could be mysterio or the lizard or the shocker
(how could the symbiote or "evil peter" be a surprise 4th villain???)
Brock will not be in further sequels (maybe mental hospital or jail or death)

The only way i think Mysterio would work is a cameo, but i think shocker could be a minor villain though idk. lol watch once comic con comes and no one was right and were all surprised. lol

Sam Rami has gone on record MANY TIMES saying that he would continue making SPIDER-MAN films as long as he is interested and in love with the franchise. I believe he'll make a fourth and then that will be all. He obviously loves the Lizard and wants to make a film with the Lizard.

Other than the Spidey movies, what else has Tobey headlined in? Yes he's done some films, but not as the lead. He does not have the "box office clout" to pull off a vanity project yet, unless he funds it himself and if that's gonna happen he really needs all the Spidey money he can get.

I hope this is the case too... but I don't think even the Lizard story is gonna be a worthy enough reason to bring everyone back... I think it's a long shot Tobey will return for one more... he said he'd be back only if the script is good... the Kraven/Lizard story is good... but I think it falls short of the SM3 plot... I wish it were done though with the same cast... even if it's worse than the previous three

I thought I read in some interview or other official publication that Raimi or someone said the symbiote would not return as Venom with Brock in a sequel if one was decided on? That always sounded kinda fishy to me and when I read Robin91939's prediction with Kraven in SM4 it all made sense. What if (And I realize this is a BIG what if) Raimi is in fact planning on sticking it out for a 4th and is using Kraven as the 4th villian in SM3 to set up the return of the black costume in SM4. With a minor cliffhanger ending in SM3 Raimi could easily set up a Lizard/Kraven/Vermin story for SM4, have Kraven bury Spider-Man and sully his name by parading around in the black costume for 20-30 mins or so of film time before Spider-Man crawls out and puts an end to it.

/shrug its a long shot but I could dig on Kraven being the 4th villian in SM3 and it would definately follow the mass hysteria that the announcement of the 4th villian was said to cause.
