5 upcoming 80's movie remakes and why they should be stopped

What a revoltin' development, remaking movies that aren't even 30 yet.:csad:

Too bad the new Friday the 13th actually looks pretty good, so that list is pretty :down

And Red Dawn sucked to begin with.

How the hell can any of these be logically be adapted for modern day? I guess for Red Dawn we could have Iraq invade us or in The Karate Kid have Hannah Montana as the star.

Oh God, please not Top Gun. Any other movie but that one. The answer is so f**king obvious: do a prequel instead about Pete's father, Duke. It could be a good period piece about his service as a Marine Corps F-4 Phantom pilot. End it with his flight jacket being given to a young, twelve-year-old Pete Mitchell.

I would'nt see anyof those movies as a remake at all. I enjoyed Top Gun when it first came out,and still enjoy, but not as a remake..Same with the rest of the list;red dawn was good for the 'cold war',but not now...Was never a big fan of Weird Science so dice on that....
I'm a little tired of all these remakes, like to see more originality..There are thousands of sci/fi,action,drama books out there that are beggin to be made into movies...Sad thing they are gonna spend millions on these crap movies with little or no chance of return on investment.

Never seen Red Dawn, Top Gun, haven't seen Weird Science in about eight years, and Karate Kid and Friday the 13th, even longer than that.

The writers of that article sound way too pessimistic and ignorant to the point where I can't even take their bit of bias seriously.

To me, what's been has been done. It doesn't affect me on any level nor does it affect the original movies if a remake is made. Because those old classics can never be replaced and that is NOT the purpose of "remakes" believe it or not. If anything, it actually BOOSTS the legitimacy of the original films if you ask me. We should encourage people to remake older films if they think they can add new value to the material for the next generation because they won't be able relate to the older films as much.

It's also interesting that looking at many older films as a neutral viewer, one can see a film for what it is and actually focus on the flaws and see past the nostalgia and see where areas could actually be improved upon.

Heck, we NEED movies and movies have to come from somewhere, right? Bring 'em on!

I'm suprised they didn't mention the RoboCop re-make/reboot.

Undoubtedly because Darren Aronofsky is on board. Should a director like Brett Ratner joined, it would have been number 1.

If the original was truly important to them, it really shouldn't matter who directs the remake.

They're going to remake Top Gun? Seriously? :funny:

To make matters worse, like a tiny, excitable moth to a flame, Tom Cruise is hoping to jump on this project to restore his current image by reminding people how not crazy he used to be. Cruise would be taking over the Tom Skeritt mentor role who teaches a rebellious, cocky young pilot how to straighten up and fly right.

That cocky young pilot? Katie Holmes. Perfect. No way that's going to be awkward and creepy.
What?! :lmao:

I dont see why anyone would want to remake Top Gun... I was under the impression that Hollywood would only want to remake stuff that is good...

i don't get how they plan to remake Red Dawn with a post-9/11 mindset, especially given the fact that even the title strictly belongs to the '80's.

As ridiculous as having all these remakes is, I'm getting a bit tired of people begging for originality.

Originality is still there. It's not hitting you over the head like 'Raiders' or 'New Hope' or the first installments of 'Terminator,' 'Nightmare on Elm Street' or 'Alien' but it's there.

You just need to stop being lazy and look harder for it.

But instead, you're letting all of these remakes cloud your vision...

have you all notice that all of the original films have all been comedies (Apatow) or animated? (Pixar, Dreamworks)?

out of that whole list, Red Dawn makes the least amount of sense. how the f*** do you remake Red Dawn?

WOLVERINES!!!!!

The Karate Kid and Red Dawn? Wasn't Karate Kid III a sign that the franchise was finished? And the latter. . . there really isn't a reason to make this one, let alone mull over a reason to talk about developing it.:down

Another Lethal Weapon or a Aronofsky directed Robo-Cop is one thing, but these films?

More time, money, and energy spent in the wrong place as usual.

The Karate Kid? Are they serious??

That does not need a remake. :whatever:

Top Gun and Red Dawn? "WTF" is just not strong enough to express how I feel.

that is exactly the point of the list and some of these movies can only exist in the 80s
