What a way to defeat Electro and the Enforcers
And to humiliate the Kingpin

Yup. The first 15 issues or so have the best Spider-Man covers/poses. Almost looks like this one ^ has raised webbing too haha.

I positively hated the first arc of Ultimate Spider-Man. The Electro/Kingpin story is was made me a fan for awhile.

I thought the first arc was one the greatest arcs in the USM universe. The first 39 issues are my absolute favorite.

I eventually came around to it a bit, I'm just not a fan of Abomination-as-Goblin.

I quit the series once every arc took forever to get through and the action scenes would just plain not happen sometimes. I remember a huge gang war about to erupt in some issue, Spider-Man webs them all together and demands that they all talk. I was like "Yes Bendis.... let's have them talk..... more.... again." *facepalm

I think that series hooked so many people because of Bagley's incredible art and the coloring that made the pages pop off the page. The clever Bendis dialogue helped too, but after awhile when that's basically the only thing you'd ever see for an entire YEAR of stories... it gets boring fast. I quit right around the time Harry was "Hobgoblin" and nothing happened. An ex of a friend of mine picked up an issue of Ultimate from my back seat while I was driving us somewhere and read it in 3 minutes and went "THAT'S IT?! That's what you guys read?? That was nothing!" and she was right.

Some of those early-00's comics were like the movie Clerks but everyone wore costumes or something. That might sound like the kind of thing some Gen Xer neckbeard guy wants to read because he's bored of the superhero conventions, but to people who still like the genre for what it is, it's tedious to sift through the decompression and in-jokey stuff.

I never really found USM boring until the relaunch. Though now that Peter Parker is returning I want to get back into it.

Issue by issue? God yes, it bored me to tears. I bet you if I read them all in rapid succession it'd flow a lot better. "Writing for the trade" mentality and all. When you have to read them issue by issue, it's like watching 10 minutes of an hour long TV show that suddenly stops. Like "Be here next week for the next 10 minutes!"

Also, I had no idea Peter was returning in Ultimate! Neat!

That might be why I like USM more. I never read it issue-by-issue but read the series straight through by TPB. Older comic books had story arcs that were always resolved issue by issue where now everything kind of takes place over 5-10 issues at a time.

Nice! Man I love Mark Bagley. I grew up reading the ASM McFarlane/Larsen/Bagley era so him drawing Spidey with those big ole eyes proportioned like that will always be like "right" to me and stuff. (and how I try to draw him! :-D )

10 days and counting
Yep, this is the final countdown

And this is another cover with raised webbing
