Horror 61 Nights of Halloween, 2023 Edition

Skipped the fourth one, wise choice.
Final Destination 5 being as good as it is feels very wrong. Especially coming off the fourth film.
For many a year my bro and I watched the first 3. It wasn't until recently we finally did 4 and 5. 5's quality was more shocking then how bad the 4th one was.

The Thing is always a fixture on my Halloween marathons, I haven't missed a viewing in the last 10 years. Also funny enough, this took me 3 viewings to see that noose joke.

It’s been a good 15 years since I’ve seen this. Totally perfect. One of the best movies ever made.
It's aged a hell of a lot better than I have in the last 41 years. If anyone asks, I usually say this is my overall favorite movie. Unless I'm talking to the kids at work, then it's The Empire Strikes Back.

1. Creepshow
2. Night of the Creeps
3. Saw X

Saw X

It's true, they finally made a good Saw movie again. Feels weird to say that after being disappointed by the last couple of entries. Missed hanging out with John and Amanda, it was fun seeing them again.

I'm honestly looking forward to The Exorcist Believer. Brandon Davis of Comic Book.com loved it, so that's encouraging. I'm not really sure well it'll be recieved overall, but I don't think the movie looks nearly as generic as some people do.

Probably the dullest entry in the series to date. I did like the puppet's brand-new neon eyes; Billy's looking dapper.

A divisive entry, but I'm a fan. I like how self-contained Spiral is in a franchise that has largely been stuck with regurgitating and reintroducing material from earlier installments. Chris Rock brings a little humor and Samuel L. Jackson brings some legitimacy into a distinctively fresher Saw movie. "From the Book of Saw" is a hilarious tagline.

Okay, not so much a horror film, but Mortal Kombat pairs well with Halloween. It definitely commits more to its spare suspenseful sequences than almost any of those Sawquels, so there's that. I was in such a high after playing Mortal Kombat 1 that I had to go for a cheeky rewatch. It's ok, but there's a ton to improve for the sequel. I hope they can pull it off.

Besides the excellent short film, this is my new favorite installment in the series. It's really interesting and rather intelligent with its emotional side. Yes, a Saw film has an emotional side and it's done well and as tastefully as it can with a character like John Kramer. The first half in particular is something special. The biggest cinematic surprise of the year for me.

I've owned the Blu-ray for over a year, but now I've finally seen the film. It's excellent and an instant favorite. I adore 70s horror and I've heard so many good things about it that this was an easy sell to begin with, but I was still taken aback by how beautiful, and how carefully crafted the film is. It can be very suspenseful, but also gloriously campy. That sex scene was one for the books and an instrumental part of the story, definitely a strong defense against those who would rather not see any sensuality at all in film. Can't wait to watch Don't Look Now again

Bite-Sized Review: I get the idea. But something about the execution (I didn't even mean that) doesn't click with me. Too much speechifying, leading to an overall long flick, that would be better served to come in under 90 mins.

It is just pointless to ask Slow Ass Mutha ****ing Jeff to move faster.

Happy Spooky season everyone, wishing everyone a frightful month! Without further ado, I begin my month of pointy things and dumb teenagers. I'm doing all slashers.

Quote of the film: "People never run away from anything."

You can't do slashers without doing the original. I mean it's Psycho. It's Hitchcock. It's hard to get better than this. Everyone knows the scoop. I'm never not totally entranced with everything going. I absolutely adore that the woman you think is the main character just flat out gets murdered at the halfway point, and the movie throws you in for a loop you didn't expect. Showers will always be scary because of this movie.
