12. Wishmaster (1997)

Really an underrated horror franchise. The first one does a great job at establishing the franchise, with fun, creative kills. And a large part of it is Andrew Divoff's Djinn. Sure, plenty of monkey paw wish deaths out there. But man, Divoff's voice and smile sells the wishes to the audience to great effect. The perfect onscreen troll. Frankly, the movie kind of suffers when Divoff is not on screen. The first movie makes great use out of the "produced by Wes Craven" with a wonderful basket of horror cameos.

13. Wishmaster 2: Evil Never Dies (1999)

Sadly, the last movie with Divoff. Been a while since I've seen the other movies, we will see how well they hold up without him. And this movie realizes Divoff is the strength of the series, and feels like he gets more screen time, if not quite as successful in getting wishes. But watching him wheel and deal with wishes in prison is a fun time. And really, does a movie that actualizes "go **** yourself" not deserve accolades? A little heavy on the homophobic slurs, which is always an issue when going to an older movie. Was worried that they weren't going to use the Vegas location as well as Leprechaun did, but saved it in the end. Also weird to see Dan from One Tree HIll as a horny priest.

V/H/S/Beyond

Chet Hanks lookalike jumpscare iykyk.

Still ever grateful this series is still with us and this year I really like they've decided to go with a theme instead of picking a year and for the most part it's all sci-fi/aliens. I will say a couple of these don't really fit the theme and one in particular doesn't really work at all. The budget continues to grow even more than the last one and with a couple of these, they've got big budget blockbuster ambitions. Just like with 85, I also really liked the frame narrative/wrap-around this time around where it's like one of those History Channel shows that discusses aliens.

I'd love to see a Butcher/Electric Lady team up film. They would work off each other so well.

I enjoyed this sequel but its nowhere near as good as the first film IMO. I really do love this concept though and I honestly wish Netflix would put some money into a proper 8 to10 episode series. I feel like there's a lot of cool worldbuilding they could do with this concept, and they could also do a better job developing the characters which is what this sequel is sorely lacking. When it comes to the horror and brutality its pretty much firing on all cylinders, but unfortunately, I just didn't find the central story here all that engaging.

(Body Parts)

An enjoyable enough South Korean Horror Anthology. This one pretty much came out of nowhere but I saw that it was SK horror and felt like I had to check it out and thankfully it wasn't a complete waste of time. I thought there was some really cool makeup and gore effects in some of the segments and if you like stuff like Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum you might really appreciate the creepy atmosphere in this as well.

This was a blast and easily my second favorite V/H/S/ film. I only wish the last two segments which I still liked were a bit stronger but there are at least two or three standout segments in this. I was already highly anticipating the Sky Diving segment beforehand and it didn't disappoint IMO. That segment and the segment that took place in India looked fantastic and something you could definitely see on a big screen. Shudder is definitely putting some money into this franchise now which is the kind of support that I love to see.

Didn't know the Platform series existed until tonight. Interesting. Which is your favorite V/H/S, Dude?

14. Wishmaster 3: Beyond the Gates of Hell (2001)

Yeah, a severe quality drop off. Yeah, losing Divoff hurts. And they want to try to emulate his voice with some terrible ADR effects. Which they love, because they tried to do it with another character. Budget got slashed from the second movie. as there is barely any money for decent kills. I understand replacing Divoff would be impossible, but dear got, his replacement is random british guy with a bad bleach job, whose voice is way to soft. Okay, I get budget cuts for the kills, but they make the Djinn here almost hating granting wishes, gone is the trollish behavior from the first two movies, just draining the fun out of it. And the added sleaziness of the movie just makes this the worst of the bunch.
Also, wtf is with the UK subtitile, Sword of Justice?

15. Wishmaster 4: The Prophecy Fulfilled (2003)

Okay, while having a lot of the same issues of the previous movie, in terms of budget for kills, it does significantly course correct in terms of the Djinn's personality. Michael Trucco/John Novak are a good tag team as the Djinn, even if not quite up to Divoff's standard. But the eagerness to grant cursed wishes is back, and that makes even the lack of super creative deaths more entertaining. It has a fun twist on the 3 wishes in order to unleash the Djinn's that also makes it more interesting that the previous movie. And yes, still has some of the same sleaze, but it doesn't seem to bother me as much. Though, I will admit, Tara Spencer-Nairn was a big reason why I rented this movie a lot back in the day....

On the video game side, I do need get back into Bayonetta. Though, I did pick up Predator: Hunting Grounds because of the new update, and that has been entertaining.

Ugh hate the second one's premise for how real it is and someone with an elderly parent. Nightmare fuel.
