Woman makes it onto flight in Texas with gun in her purse

DALLAS (Reuters) - A 65-year-old woman made it past a checkpoint and onto a flight at the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport on Wednesday with a revolver tucked away in her handbag, and was only stopped after the plane was called back to the gate, the airport said.
The woman was carrying a .38-caliber revolver in her handbag, the airport said in a statement. She was to be charged with a state felony for carrying a weapon where prohibited.
The release said airport police got a call from the Transportation Security Administration at about 6 a.m., asking for help locating a person who had gotten through the checkpoint but needed secondary screening.
Airport Department of Public Safety officers searched all five terminals and found the woman at about 8 a.m. on board an American Airlines domestic flight that had been called back to the gate for inspection. A total of 10 flights were delayed an average of 20-25 minutes during the incident.
The TSA has said that airport security officers found about four firearms per day, many of them loaded, at airport checkpoints last year. Most passengers said they had forgotten the weapons were in their bags, the TSA said.

:wow:

Oh Texas, you and your firearms.

See, this is why TSA makes no sense. They'll take away your cupcake, but let you keep your GUN!

Oh Texas, you and your firearms.

From living in Texas, I can say you're right! They actually have to put signs up at the BANK asking patrons to please not bring their gun inside.

Well, to be honest, there are a lot of wide open places in Texas. Having a handgun on you or waiting 45 minutes for the police to show up are your choices if something bad happens.

Something that you would normally call the police with handguns to handle in a highly populated area. Someone breaking into your house to rob you. That sort of thing.

Texas must seriously be like a foreign country. If I called the cops for anything, the reason would always be "because they're the cops", not "because they've got guns".

Airport security at it's finest. :whatever:

We're the only state that may prosecute a baby... Maybe. :o

Again, I've lived in Texas and have driven over quite a lot of it. There are plenty of places where, if you needed help, even Superman wouldn't make it in time. However, the bank and the airport do not fall into this category.

Side note: I was in that same airport once just after a man had tried to convince TSA that the rilfe he wanted to carry on the plane, was not loaded. Yeah, it went off in the airport. Texans and their guns!

This happened when I was at Disney World a few years ago. A grandmother tried to enter Magic Kingdom with a gun in her purse. :wow:

Although their security managed to catch it before she made it into the park.

Well, in her defense, you do get robbed a lot at Disney World. I mean, just look how much they charge for a soda!

Depending on where you live, there are some places where people almost never have to call the cops for gun crimes.

When a criminal pulls out a weapon then you have a half dozen honest citizens pulls a gun on them.

Think of it like this, if you knew that a lot of people were armed, would you think it safe to rob a store?

If you knew that a lot of people owned guns would you feel safe breaking and entering into someones home?

:funny:

It would definitely get her a great spot for the parades, that's for sure.

Seeing as how I really don't trust people with cars, if I knew that a lot of people were armed in my area, I'd move. :o

If I was a robber, I wouldn't want to rob a bank in a town full of people with guns

I agree. However a lot of people who own handguns never think of doing anything illegal with them. So walking into a bank with one wouldn't be out of line in their heads. I'm not defending the action, just trying to explain a mindset that may be different. It's probably not stupidity, insomuch as not viewing the gun as something you use to take other people's stuff.

Even still, it just makes the tellers nervous.

Same thing in Arizona, plenty of places have signs saying no guns allowed. My girlfriend works at a hospital and a bunch of the older patients bring guns in, just because it's like their wallet, they don't even think about it.

In texas we automatically assume the guy breaking into your house has a gun. And so we shoot them.
