Love the prospect of Denzel Washington winning his second Oscar for Macbeth. Word through the grapevine is that the film is great.

At face value, Killers of the Flower Moon seems like the film to beat.

If Macbeth is as great as it could be, Frances McDormand might be the first two-time Oscar winner in a row since Tom Hanks.

My premature predictions for Best Picture:

Dune
The French Dispatch
Killers of the Flower Moon
Next Goal Wins
Nightmare Alley
Soggy Bottom
Stillwater
Untitled David O. Russell Film
West Side Story

It would be his third if he did.

I think Baz Luhrmann's Elvis film might get some love too. Tom Hanks for supporting actor.

Lol, I think a lot of people forget that he won fairly early in his career for Glory because his Best Actor win for Training Day overshadows it.

For me it’s definitely Glory, because Russel Crowe should‘ve won in 2002 and Denzel‘s win came to a big surprise...

If they want to bring the ratings back, they need a host again. Maybe not a Ricky Gervais, but someone who won’t completely suck up to the stars, but won’t let them off the hook either for being up their own butts. Someone like Tina Fey and Amy Poehler who know how to walk that balance.

Then, they need to nominate some more commercial movies again, and not just in the animated category. No, not a “most popular” category, and don’t nominate just to nominate if it’s not a realistic choice.

Lastly, this will be controversial, but use it as a showcase for upcoming movies somehow. A lot of people watch the Super Bowl for the commercials more than for the football. I’m not saying you have promise world premiere trailers, but somehow get the audience an exclusive look for future releases to get the excitement going.

I've said this before, but Jim Carrey as the host of the Oscars would be awesome.

- Someone different than the usual suspects (Gervais, Kimmel, Fey/Poehler, etc)
- An well-liked, big name actor with a long career in Hollywood pictures big and small
- A comedian who can do incredible impersonations, and is great at interacting with live crowds, pre-taped bits, etc
- He is able to poke fun at himself and others without being offensive
- He is not pretentious
- He can reference the fact that he has never been nominated for an Oscar (even when he should have been) and turn it into a running gag
- He always kills whenever he has been a presenter on award shows
- It would harken back to the days when people like Billy Crystal would host

Also, they absolutely should use the Oscars to promote upcoming movies -- big and small. They could debut exclusive trailers/clips during the show itself, rather than during commercials. Celebrate and promote all kinds of filmmaking.

By removing awards like Best Short Film and Animated Short Film from the telecast (sorry guys), they could throw in a few extra minutes of additional content without extending the length of the telecast.

Some hosting suggestions...

Tina Fey & Amy Poehler
Nick Kroll & John Mulaney
The Rock & Kevin Hart
Bill Burr
Jamie Foxx
Conan O'Brien
Hugh Jackman
Larry David
Chris Rock
Jerry Seinfeld
Tom Hanks

Or if you wanna get really interesting and weird or crazy..
Aubrey Plaza
Desus & Mero
Eric Andre

...the only three films I want to win any awards, as of now, are Dune / Zola / Green Knight.

I sure hope they put the awards back in their traditional order next year. Presenting the Best Director award so early in the evening felt very weird and off. It should be one of the last four presented.

I don’t think stand-up comedian is the way to go. Comedians get their laughs from being an outsider, making observations about those on the inside.

Sure if the stand up comedians are just that, but those listed have acted before in movies and shows.

That's the exact reason to get a comedian. They're us. Making jokes when things get too self-important. Billy Crystal was the perfect mix of being respectful enough of the history of the awards but calling them out on their bull.

Letterman went all the way lol

Chris Rock was a perfect mix too
