IMO, not a very good adaption of the Fantastic Four, but a good attempt at the Surfer.
No more FF....just a Tim Story-free Surfer movie.
Nah.....he was disappointing in FF2 IMO.Agreed 100%, the Surfer made this movie for me.
Nah.....he was disappointing in FF2 IMO.
But apparently Alex Proyas is directing the SS film so maybe they could make him work....He's a good director (Watch I, Robot).
No more FF....just a Tim Story-free Surfer movie.
Why should one exclude the other? Can we not have a better FF3 AND a solo Surfer movie. After all, we are getting Wolverine and X-Menrgins!
And Alba-free.BETTER YET A TIM STORY FREE FF
Quoted for *****ing TruthAnd Alba-free.
Did you happen to notice the phasing out of FF referencing in the article. That's indicative of most things I read on this movie. Silver Surfer this, ROSS that, the Surfer being the largest image on the DVD covers. FF2, seems like a last or at the very least if FF3 is made. It's going to be about the Mole Man and Marvel cameos done on the cheap.Fantastic Four Tops DVD Sales and Rentals

The Hollywood Reporter says that 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment's Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer became the top-selling and top-renting DVD its first week in stores:
Another new DVD release, Walt Disney Studios' Platinum Edition of "The Jungle Book," bowed at No. 1 on the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart for the week ending Oct. 7, but "Silver Surfer," which debuted at No. 2, also was available in a two-pack with the original "Fantastic Four." Combined sales numbers put the summer theatrical hit slightly ahead of "The Jungle Book."
Meanwhile, on Home Media Magazine's national DVD rental chart for the same week, "Silver Surfer" easily took the top spot in its first week, generating an estimated $9.5 million in rental revenue.
"Silver Surfer" also topped the Blu-ray Disc charts its first week out, while "Knocked Up" remained at No. 1 on the HD DVD charts for the second straight week. Both titles are exclusive to their respective high-def formats.

^^^ hahahah, there is no third option Malus lol, .........but if they did it should have been, do them both. As I keep saying one is not a substitute for the other. Marvel does not skip an issue of FF everytime they put out an issue of SS.
In the movies Fox needs to understand that they are not substitutes for each other. The FF fans are not necessarily going to go over and get all excited about SS. I think SS is a Fox fixation but like a lot of the fascination with him it is as a role character, that is the way it has often been with me.
What really draws us to SS, his sacrifice or the fascination of his place in the universe in conjunction with his connection to Galactus, which Fox messed with. His film should be a 70-80 million dollar movie that sets up his origin, beyond that can you really see him becoming a major franchise. Doing aliens is not impossible but do you really think Fox is the Studio that can pull this off. The alien personna alone is going to be hard to connect him with audiences. Singers Superman seemed truly detached and as you can see his movie lacked the zing of joy Superman evoked in his first movie.
SS has had long running series but has never been as popular as the FF. I think you will find the same thing with the movies.
Finally a speculation. It is the Fantastic Four that the majority of people really want to see, not the silver surfer. The FF are icons and that is why despite the savaging of the FF mythology they still made money at the box office, in spite of the abject mismanagement of Fox with this storied franchise.
Anyway they need to bring us FF3 and introduce some more characters.
If they want they can also do the SS movie. I would go see it at the theater, but I don't have to see it opening day as I did with the FF, SS just does not do much for me.
Firstly ) I think fox does understand.
I mean yes thet have stopped x-men movies to make wolvie ones but that thechnically makes sense. It was too early for x-men reallly because at the moment it is very expensive to make a film with essentially a gang of superheroes. JLA and avengers will prob do well but i can understand fox`s desire to not have to make the x-men movies at the moment.
They prob will make a ss film for say 2009 and then a ff3 for 2010 and then a ss2 for 2012.
I mean they are likely to go with that option because it gives them 2 film series for 1 franchise. The same reason they making both a wolvie and magneto movie.
Thye would have done the same with daredevil but they never quite got him and then with elektra flopping they just chickened out.
Thye prob will make both silver surfer and fantastic four movies with a gap of about a year/ year and a half between a silver surfer movie and the subsequent ff movie.
Secondly) Yes a silver surfer franchise could work. It hasen`t been done before but the dynamic of the fantastic four had never been done before on film but it worked well. Obviously for us to feel investment in the character they would prob have to make that each cosmic threat ss facews would be a threat to humanity but that isn`t to hard to pull off...
Thanos wants to destroy the universe-----Therefore humanity is kinda at risk.
Any of the others like terrax or such could be wanting to take over our galaxy or enslave mankind or destroy the earth. There are a lot of possibilities and SS has the benefit that there would be no film series like it. It would be difficult for someone to say "That SS2 Film is kinda average I mean that bit when he flies at lightspeed and piledrivers terrax through the heart of a supernova was essentially just like that bit in Batman 9 when batman kicked the joker in the shin."
It ain`t likely. With no green lantern film likley for the forseeable future silver surfer will be the only super hero within the cosmic realm and thereby that instantly gives him the same advantage that the doctor strange or namor film series will one day hopefully have in that they are playing in a sandbox which is unique and different as opposed to the normal cityscaes and canadian forests of x-men, spidey, batman and ff. Not better just different.
But I want to see Galactus. Not to mention maybe some other Heralds and THANOS!!!
