A New Era for the Wrestling Thread

NXT's debut on the CW was really good, I thought they got off to a strong start with the new logo and the upgraded title belts, and bookended the show with 2 big title matches.

Roxy vs Giulia was really good and felt like the appetiser to start of a great series between 2 extremely talented women, the chemistry was there but Giulia is still learning a hew style and obviously new communication, she doesn't work the crowd as well as Roxy but everything is there to develop a special rivalry. I knew Cora Jade was due back this month but I thought the hooded figure was going to be Stephanie Vaquer, even though the figure looked too tall, and when Cora took the hood off for the reveal the crowd seemed uncertain how to react, but her return along with Vaquer's imminent debut is great for the division and I can see them booking a big tag match for Halloween Havoc.

There was also a short vignette for another addition to the women's roster, an Aussie called Delta, she looks straight out of Mad Max.

Trick regained the NXT title in the main event, the match was more about the moment than the match quality, both guys were a bit off with their timing and while the crowd was hot I felt having Punk as the ref sort of backfired as the crowd spent most of the match chanting for him, but at least the right guy won and apparently Trick vs Wes might be the next title program, which should be good, and Page might well face Punk at Halloween Havoc given he was in Punk's face all match and git a GTS post-match, which would be a good rub for Page now he's not Champion.

I haven’t seen NXT in a long time. Good show (minus Phil) except I think that since it moved to a new network they should have re-introduced everybody better since you should be grabbing a new audience on broadcast television.

Reportedly WBD has a stake in AEW in addition to paying them ~$170M per year in the new contract. Hopefully they can get in the star making business with better booking and market their talent.

Both AEW and WBD declined to share the financial details behind the deal. However, sources say it is a three-year deal with an option for a fourth year. The deal is estimated to be valued at $170M annually including the rights fee and other elements. WBD also keeps its equity stake in AEW, but the size of it was not disclosed.

I’d also try to get one of their shows on a free service like Tubi or PlutoTV or including broadcast networks. Supposedly they’ve been looking also at FOX (who Tubi is a part of the parent company).

The exact number seems not clear at the moment, but everyone agrees that AEW gets double at the very least.
And that is so insane considering its a 5 year old Promotion in a market dominated for 25+ years by the WWE.
Im so happy as AEW fan seeing the growth of AEW and all that.

But in general as Wrestling fan im super happy how things have turned out.
Wrestling in general is growing again and in so many different directions...that is so great to see.

I tried AEW for about a year and gave up, it's like a bizarre mix of latter day WCW booking, and CZW, but it employs a lot of people so I'm glad they got their new tv deal.

I'd love to see those too, did Iyo and Giulia wrestle each other in Japan?
I don't think so. When Iyo left Stardom in 2018. Giulia was with their, at the time, mortal rivals Ice Ribbon. Having only started wrestling in 2017. It was at the end of 2019 when she left and joined Stardom, shaking up things in the joshi scene.

Gotcha, I thought Iyo had been in America about 6 years so I thought the timeline might not match up. I've heard of Stardom, but not Ice Ribbon, what a name for a promotion. :D is Stardom the biggest Joshi promotion since AJW? The way WWE are stockpiling female talent the title scene is going to be full of great match-ups for years.

Yeah, Stardom is as big as a women's only promotion has got since the 90s. It not nearly as big as AJW was, but it's the second or third biggest promotion in Japan right now. Though they've taken a hit with losing their booker, who has started his own promotion, Marigold. Which WWE has a working relationship with. Iyo wrestled a dream match there with Utami. Another I want in the WWE someday.

Rossi Ogawa was the Stardom booker, right? I read a bit about him when he was with Giulia and Triple H at Wrestlemania, apparently things with him and Asuka are strained but I actually saw Iyo's match in Marigold, Urami looks good and now would be a good time for her to go to WWE as there are several Japanese women to help her settle in.
